canon500dCanon likely has a new DSLR in the works and we hear it’s going to dubbed the 500D. Now, don’t get your hopes up just yet cause this is still one of those unfounded Internet rumors but we’ll beat Canon has something special planned next week for PMA whether it’s the 500D or not.

CanonRumors:

The new Rebel will be launched June 23 along with a new EF-S prime. The lense will be a 30mm f/2 with an EF-S mount. Canon held off on the originally planned 500D release due to the economy and waiting to see what Nikon comes out with……… They have a couple designs of the camera ready to go.

If we were the speculating type, we would state that this 500D will probably come equipped with a similar, if not identical, image sensor as the 5D Mark II and might even pack the HD video recording mode that made the Mark II camera such a hit. But then again, we don’t like to speculate like that.

  • I seriously doubt any rebels will be fullframe any time soon.

Maybe an APS-C sized version of the 5D MK II’s sensor, but the 50D’s sensor is more logical.

  • I also very much doubt that it will have the HD recording function of the 5D Mk II while the 50D does not, despite them sharing the current series DIGIC processor.

If they add HD recording to a consumer D-SLR while leaving it off the prosumer 50D, they’re really not giving people very much incentive to buy the more expensive 50D, with the exception of faster autofocus and higher frame rates. Especially with the megapixel values of canons rebel range already past the 12mpx point.

  • anyone bother taking a close look at the butchered “500D” lettering? Look at how smushed the “50″ looks. Especially the first zero.

  • this is just the 50D body they just changed the logo..
