Let's say there are video game addicts, what's wrong with that? They even have foundations for those who needs treatments and such but has anyone bothered to check out real and alarming addictions like drugs? Is being addicted to video games worst than being addicted to drugs? I'd rather be addicted to games than to drugs and most parents would agree to that. I've also read an article http://www.seolinksshop.com/articles/article-18.html which pointed a good effect of games in real world specially in times of crisis.

I agree with most of the opinions posted here. I have seen a mate addicted to crack-cocaine. There is no way the game is that bad but it is addictive and can lead to lack of social engagement etc. I have played for 3 years (I actual looked at my original receipt for the game). I have played excessively at times and not played at all for some months due to making sure my grades never dropped and I never fell behind in my trainee ship. So my opinion is that if you have the spare time the game is great (lots of friendly people in the game), but if you are not skilled at separating play time from work/study/fitness time then I would strongly advise against the game.

Until recently, I was incredibly addicted to this game. It's now been two months, and I'm still really tempted sometimes to start playing again. However, the more i played, the more my grades went down, the more my social life degraded, the more my social life got worse. Honestly I'm not so surprised that somebody actually collapsed. Although I would say that it's not quite as bad as crack-cocaine, I would say that it's a lot worse then most people give it credit for. People don't realize how horrible this game can really be for your life. Just a piece of advice : no matter how cool this game seems, don't get an account!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is startling sometimes how many hours people put in to WoW, even against other games. It came out my junior year in college and two of my friends failed college due to their inability to stop playing it, no matter the circumstances. I don't blame the game whatsoever, they simply lacked the necessary discipline. Pretty sad when you let a game define major chapters in your life though. I also have refused to play it out of respect-it's addicting and there is no doubt about it.

I've played my fair share of games on the net and off but if it gets in the way of school, work, or working out it's cut out immediately. Another thing about these games, not so much Activision games though, are security issues if you play them on a secure network. At my day job they don't allow it, I use this digital security site to learn about subjects like that.

WoW is addictive in the same way chatting via ICQ or yahoo was in the early days. There is always one more thing to do or one more person to talk to, so it is hard to put away for some people. It does tend to consume a lot of time if you let it.

You can walk away from it much more easily than from a chemical addiction I would think (having never been addicted to any drug).

I'm pretty sure this is untrue. WoW is more like TV. If you watch it alot you'll keep watching but if you are deprived of it eventually you will not miss it.

I used to play WoW 5-10 hours a day on weekdays and 10-20 hours on weekends when I had time. Now I don't have much time and I hardly play it and don't miss it.
