Good morning, Mac Mini. It seems most of the rumors were right and that image was indeed the real deal.
We’ve got an Intel Core 2 Duo, up to a 320 GB HDD, and a NVIDIA GeForce 9400m. The back sports Firewire 800, Mini DVI, Mini DisplayPort, and five, yup five, USB ports. The entry level unit costs $599 and comes equipped with 1GB of memory, while the higher end model sports the same 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU but also comes with 2GB of memory and a larger 320GB HDD.
The Mini follows Apple’s recent stance on going green too. It meets Energy Star requirements, comes with BFR- free internal components and PVC-free internal cables. Got to love this movement.

nice mac mini. a good upgrade from the predecessor
With $600 I think you can get a much better PC with a much better configuration!!
Except for looking cute, I don’t understand why people for this….you want stability in PC….go with Ubuntu and not Windows…save $$$

But you can’t run iMovie or Final Cut Pro on a pc.
I think it’s a fallacy to assume that win/mac/linux machines are somehow interchangeable. The typical consumer isn’t going to say “I have $600. Should I get a mac mini, a windows machine, or an Ubuntu machine?” Even if one rejects the windows machine outright, the average consumer also is going to have no idea where to buy a computer with ubuntu pre-installed.
If they want a mac, the mini is by far the lowest cost of entry available, and the only option other than a mac pro that allows you to upgrade the computer and monitor seperately.
Yes, but it’s tiny and practically silent. Both of those qualities are highly valued by some people. Power isn’t everything.
Honey, don’t come into a Mac article and insult a mac… go to a PC article and compliment it, but you’re in the wrong place here!!
nice new computer from mac.a good upgrade from its predecessor
Can the armchair forensic analyst who popped up and announced the misaligned ports and visual artifacts come forward and announce that they are leaving the industry so that no cases they may perform their expertise on get thrown out of court? Oh, and perhaps stand up and get kicked in the nuts? I think todays environment requires accountability when someone is wrong.
I was going to say the same thing. In fact, I might write something up later. I disagreed with the *design* of the thing when I saw that video, but that guy was treating this thing like bigfoot.
Is it just me or is the $200 dollar difference between the two a complete sham? Seriously, $200 for an extra gig of ram and a bigger HD that could be purchased for wayyyy cheaper?
This thing has two video ports (Mini DVI and Mini DisplayPort) – does that mean it supports two monitors? I always thought the big problem with the old Mac Mini was that it didn’t support dual monitors.
I might buy this just to run iphone sdk.
200+ for the 1GB more?? Are you kiddin me??
I was thinkin on buying a Mac Mini like this one, now I’m not sure… maybe a Hackintosh ;)
What the … . I was really waiting for the mac mini update to set up my living room the way I want it. But that means a HDMI Interface, as every other system. But what did we get? 5 USB Ports, MiniDVI and Mini Display Port. I mean, seriously, if we can survive with 1 USB port on a MBA, why do I want 5 and no HDMI?
Stevie, where are you. The company needs help!
Been waiting for this since some idiot stole my Macbook. This one is definantly going on thugtrap.
That’s $200+ for the additional 1GB RAM, additional 200GB Harddisk and additional 128MB VRAM over the base model.
I have bought two. I love the things for my kids. No trojan horses, no viruses. My kids can surf and not trash my computer. I still can’t get the trojan horse off my old PC. None of the spy-ware programs will remove it. So screw it, I bought the two mac minis for the kids. Problem solved.
Perfect for the internet.
