Remember that Phantom i7 laptop from Eurocom we heard about last month — the one sporting a non-mobile Core i7 processor? Well, there’s a little more info on it now, and it’s even better/worse than you imagined. Check out these ridiculous specs. Remember, this is a laptop.
- 17″ display
- 11.9 pounds (5.4kg)
- Quad-core Core i7 processor
- 8GB DDR3 RAM
- 3 HDDs in RAID
- 12-cell battery (good for one hour)
- Blu-ray writer
- 4 USB 2.0 ports, 2 DVI-out, Firewire, parallel, and serial ports
You’re going to have be careful not to get sucked in by the thing’s gravitational field — and hopefully they have enough cooling in there to keep it from igniting the earth. No pictures yet, probably because they couldn’t get the satellites aligned in time for CeBIT.

lol..nice article- but most laptops suck when it comes to battery life, don’t they?
Yeah, and everybody also exaggerates their battery performance… this thing probably gets half an hour.
if they can get the battery life up to 1.5hrs I’m totally in.
I thought Core i7 was meant to be lower power and more performance. That’s been the trend with intel chips for a while.
If a 12-cell battery gets only 1 hour, then it makes me really concerned about Core i7s with a 6-cell battery. Would that get about 15 minutes of life ?
Intel switches off, it’s their “tick-tock” schedule. Penryn was a core shrink, Nehalem was an architecture change. Be concerned for any Core i7 lappies.
ha it’s better then my 45 minutes on my 17 intel dual core.
I have it hooked up to my 360, the most expensive wireless reciever in the world!
any word about the graphics card it carries, a 3-way SLI I suppose :)

Just one hour? Most laptops can run for 1 hr off the battery, it’s still a big trouble especially on travelling. Still needs some tips to prolong the battery life.
1 hour?
Just long enough for me to hibernate.
by the way is this with or without power saving options..
I use my laptop without the battery, so I honestly don’t care about battery life… And the mass doesn’t matter either to me… It’s on a desk all the time anyway… I just use a laptop because I can carry it around a bit easier than a desktop, and it fits in my bag :)
