f200exr

Booyah! Amazon just updated their Fujiflim F200EXR page with an availability date. The most promising and probably the best point and shoot available will start shipping March 7th. We can’t wait to see what that EXR sensor can do.

  • Has anyone used the device yet? I’d be curious to know how the EXR sensor is increasing the picture quality on the device. Its definitely a nice device but considering an 8MP can be had for around $100 right now the extra 4MP don’t seem worth the additional $295.95 in my humble opinion.

  • The exr sensor in the very least is bigger than most pocket camera sensors, this means lower noise (especially at low light/high iso) it is 1/1.6 inches verses 1/1.23 which is common now. Some people have used it, http://f200exr.com has a list of webpages that contains sample pictures. Also, you are not paying for more megapixels, the more megapixels within the same size sensor the more noise you introduce so you do not want an overly ambitious resolution (megapixels). What is supposed to be special about the f200exr is that it reduces the megapixels when you are using higher ISO (or when you just plan set it to do this) it uses a technique called “pixel binning” to combine pixels so that you have less megapixels but lower noise. I won’t go into the pros and cons of this but the exr sensor is supposed to optimize pixel binning. the website that I mentioned has a discussion of the exr sensor as well.
