Xbox 360 Elite being axed?

Last week Fudzilla was reporting that Microsoft could be phasing out the Xbox 360 Elite in select markets while making it a limited edition model in NA and Europe. It all boils down to the current state of the economy. And it wouldn’t hurt the sales of special edition Elite consoles like the Resident Evil 5 bundle if the black Elites weren’t so abundant.

The plan, if true, would see MS cutting off orders of the Elite to retailers and letting them deplete supplies. This could drive the cost of the Elite bundle to go up, but they would include a top-tier title. The rumor goes on to say that MS would make available a larger hard drive than the 120GB model for those with Arcade or Pro systems.

If it does go down like Fudzilla says than we can expect to see it happen in Q2. MS, per the usual, had this to say about the whole shebang.

Peter, as you may know, we don’t comment on rumors and speculation.

  • I honestly cannot foresee this happening. Quite a few of the hardcore gamers that use the xbox 360; own a Elite.

Plus it it’s Microsoft for god sakes, I couldn’t see it being that much more expensive for them to produce the Elite over the Premium and Arcade models.

I don’t know, i’ll sit back and wait to see if this happens. If it does, then I’m glad I got my Elite a long ass time ago.

I wonder if the elite would become anything like the elusive backwards compatible PS3’s? ha

  • its is going to happen i work at gamestop and we are stopping the elite skus soon

  • its true they are stoping the elite systems but they are making a hard drive of 180gb thats 20gb more then the ps3 and at the price range of 159.99 you cant go wrong how do i know this you ask i work that gamestop also it will all come to an end in april

    • I kinda hope this does happen for one reason only. I wouldn’t mind a bigger hard drive. I have a pro and all i have is a 20gb. I am in the market for a new hard drive since i am getting very low on space, I thought about getting a 60gb, but if this does go throught i am definitely going to get a 180gb or whatever the new hard drive will be.
