HTC’s most BlackBerry-like device yet, the Maple (see previous coverage here) may poke its head out of wherever cell phones normally keep their heads at the CTIA conference in a couple weeks, according to DigiTimes.
The Maple is thought to have the following specs:
- 2.4″ QVGA screen
- 2 megapixel camera
- Windows Mobile 6.1
- 528 MHz CPU
- 128 MB RAM/256 MB ROM
- Full QWERTY keyboard
- May launch target
It’ll be interesting to see if it indeed launches with Windows Mobile 6.1 and whether or not it’ll be upgradeable to (or come with) Windows Mobile 6.5, which is due out to consumers in September but should be in manufacturers’ hands by April.
HTC has apparently “been in talks with four service operators in the US for joint marketing of the BlackBerry-like HTC Maple,” so that should basically cover you no matter which network you use. No further info on pricing or actual launch dates yet.

The Maple is the follower of the Cavalier and that’s about all that we officially know. The handset is said to sport a user-friendlier keyboard, a trackball and an “Inner Circle” feature which will improve the way you communicate with your closest friends depending on the time of day and day of the week. We’ll be back to check this phone when official details will be available. Until then you have time to figure out if you want an HTC Windows Mobile QWERTY handset like the Maple or you’re more of a Berry kind of person.
