Nikon’s Coolpix camera line has never really been that ‘cool’. Despite attempts from Ashton Kutcher to convince you otherwise, point and shoot cameras are rarely shaped in any innovative or creative ways. They usually look like a bar of soap with a lens sticking out of it. That being said, it’s always interesting when someone out of the mainstream comes up with a concept of what something could look like.
That being said, design artist Camillo Vanacore has come up with an interesting concept. What if Nikon did make a waterproof coolpix? Judging from this concept art, it actually could be a pretty cool camera. Hopefully Nikon will either hire this guy or at least be inspired by his concept.

I would buy this hands down over the new “orange” Panasonic waterproof due out soon. Wow, epic job. Def looks “cool”.
You might remember that many early digital cameras looked “funny.” Designers must have had fun leaving their “boxes” after they were freed from the film box and transport, but how many of these designs still survive in the marketplace? A large number of serious photogs want a camera that “looks like a camera.” This is especially important when you are doing an assignment where either your subjects are people, or your client is present. Note the popularity of todays DSLRs. The Canons/Sonys/Nikons/etc look pretty much the same as each other and the old film SLRs, and most of them and their lenses today are black. The camera you have when working definitely affects how you are perceived as a photographer. That said, I have taken fine photos with my “point-&-shoot” not much bigger than my cell phone. You won’t always get shooed out of some public places as you would when carrying a big “pro” rig. I also use a DSLR that gets me more respect when taking pictures in public, and of course is more versatile.
