Rumor has it that a “Premium” version of the App Store will appear next week featuring more expensive and presumably better apps. This will allow more valuable apps to escape the 99 cent/free ghetto.

Presumably we’re also talking about apps from well-known developers as well, which will encourage the creation of iPhone apps by EA and the like. Here’s hoping.

  • Is this how they’re going against Cydia? They clearly want a monopoly of the application aspect of the iPhone.

  • Maybe that is why the App Store has been broken for the last 5 days. Check out the new releases page in any of the categories on the App Store, and it hasn’t changed for days and there is a really odd ranking with no new apps appearing. The developer community is not very happy.
