Brian Solis, the “next-gen” PR dude, just got some hot shots of the Dell Adamo. Color us impressed. His photos show a laptop with the sex of a MacBook Air with a little more of the hard edged aesthetic familiar to those who enjoy cheese graters and shipping containers.
No specs – Solis focuses on looks – but she’s a beaut. From what I can tell there are two USB ports, HDMI, Ethernet, something that looks like a WWAN card slot, and a lock port. The packaging, above, looks like something out of Space World. I’ll try to track down these Dell folken and get some hands-on time tomorrow. CONFIRMED – Keith of iFixIt confirmed the launch for tomorrow.
Dell is probably betting the farm on this and they’ve been doing a great job mixing a little design into their staid line-up. Also, if this dude just got a hands on it should be available sooner than later and most probably tomorrow. At least now we no longer have to wonder what Dell has been cooking up these past weeks.
Dell has been hinting at the Adamo since CES and this is the first time it has been seen in the wild. We’ve also confirmed that it will launch tomorrow for $1,999.

When I this coming out? I am tired of hiding my DELL whenever these MAC dudes come around. I hope they change the charger too.
tomorrow
Meh. It’s definitely a “me too” entry. I kinda like their design direction on the Minis, but this one leaves me flat.
For $1999 you can buy a Macbook at install Vista on it. I guess I don’t get it.
I have been waiting for something like this!
DAMN! This look really nice. Really looking forward to this.
Here is a post and a couple of videos just published on Direct2Dell: http://bitly.com/sVFdG
Sex of the Macbook Air? Um…. yeah. You guys definitely need to tell your dealer to stop putting so much cut in your crack… Its turning your brain into mush. The HDMI is a dope touch… but cmon’ $1999 could get your ass a multi-touch glass trackpad… or you could save 200 bucks and get the real sex… if you know what I mean.
$2000!! This is Madness. Count me out. Is good design synonymous with expensive?? When do we get an ‘IKEA computer manufacturer’?
I believe good design can be cheap.
When laptops become ad-supported…
Not impressed. Just look at the hinge, it looks so flimsy. I cannot believe you compare this to an Apple…
I got to use it for a good bit, and the hinges feel solid. Metal-on-metal, and feels more solid than the MacBook Air hinges. Overall, it’s impressively built. Very solid. You hold it at the corner and it doesn’t flex at all.
GREAT, if you haven’t heard of Bootcamp.
$1999, too pricy. will have to wait and see what are the features. But price is definitely an issue.
Wait a few months and they’ll be on sale for $1499.
Then I buy one just in time for Windows 7 :)
How can anyone possibly compare this to a macbook air? It’s just too thick and much heavier.
Oh and where have all those “I need a built-in DVD drive!!!111ONE11!!” commenters went?

The CPU could have been more powerful, but the design is amazing.
As far as I’m concerned, the design is the tech specs. I don’t know who this is targeted at, but the the specs aren’t good enough for a power user, and the price point is too high for a casual user. The solid state drive is a waste of money. What is the GPU? It looks cool, but how can you charge 2K for that.
Mmmm, never buy the first generation of anything, especially PC’s, firearms, or foreign vehicles. On second thought, don’t EVEN buy foreign vehicles.
@IT dude: Every vehicle is foreign depending on the country in which you live :-).
Looks like a sweet portable for a Linux box. Or Win 7. Not Vista.
this NB looks really cool. so thin
I think it looks cool, but I’m concerned about the strength of the monitor. If it’s anything like my inspiron, latitude, or xps laptops, the monitor’s weight will make it flimsy over time…
and for $2k, i’ll settle for an XPS w/o solid-state, thank you very much.
will it catch my lap on fire? my last dell laptop must have been nuclear powered. it used my lap as a cooling pond.
One question – why punish good and/or good-looking hardware with WINDOWS ?
