In what can only be described as the most adorable microphone in the history of consumer electronics, the ThumbTack mic from SwitchEasy.com is just what you need to take your fourth-generation iPod Nano and/or second-generation iPod Touch to the next level of aesthetic wonderment. It’s only $13, too!
It’s billed as a high-quality microphone that’s compatible with third-party apps, so iPod Touch owners would probably find the most benefit. Nano owners who want to dabble in a little voice recording, though, might find the ThumbTack’s tiny size to fill that need quite nicely.

Works well on my iPod Touch 2G. I’ve used it with apps like Griffin iTalk recorder, SPL Db meter and both Shazam and Midomi music search and recognition apps.
Great buy!
Unfortunately, when you use it as a microphone, it shuts off the internal iPod Touch speaker so you can’t use it to talk and listen at the same time. i.e. as far as I can tell, it can’t be used for Skype phone calls. Obviously, when it’s plugged in, there’s no place to plug in headphones.
Would it work with a splitter pluged in the ipod first?
actually there is a feature in the skype app that allows use of the internal mic while the thumbtack mic is plugged in
Does anyone know if this would work if plugged into a macbook input port? my internal mic is defective and this would be a good low cost replacement if it would work.
I have a IPOD Classic 60gig and I am looking for a microphone that will work with it and that I can use to record my own voice. I have no idea if this can be done, but I sure do need it.
