Some Sunday morning rumor mongering for y’all. While we’ve known that Amazon has been planning to sell HD versions of TV shows for a few weeks now, we knew nothing about price… until now! Yup, it looks like Amazon wants $2.99 per HD episode, as this screengrab shows, which is the same prices that Apple charges on iTunes. (That works out to around $53 per season, which, knowing the quality of TV these days, is an insane proposition.) But, good news for Apple haters, then.
Now, when exactly these HD downloads will debut, who knows. Dave Zatz found hints of the HD TV shows in the TiVo interface a few days ago. Presumably you’d be able to get these HD shows on things like he Roku box, too.
Also, I’d like to take a moment to laugh at Manchester United. [Moment.] Thank you.

Not gonna work. 99 cents maybe…$2.99, not with the economy the way it is now. Losing proposition right out of the gate.
Apparently there’s still a lot of drug use going around in Hollywood.
Maybe 99 cents for an un-DRM’ed full-fidelity HD copy, that’s about it.
If I was in a Hollyweird boardroom, I’d look at 99 quadrillion percent more profit than FREE, which is what BitTorrent offers.
I am eager to have the ability to pay for HD quality TV shows. AND eager to pay (I’m tired of the copyright notices I’m getting from my ISP).
However. $2.99 is ludicrous. That would be a hard sell even for HBO quality shows.
99 cents is a no brainer. I’d even pre-pay for a whole season at a 99c per episode rate.
That $2.99 price will come down.
Really hope it comes down…then itunes would actually have some competition…
