T-Mobile subscribers have been waiting patiently for the big magenta to roll out their 3G network and it finally happened last year. But, let’s be honest, it wasn’t as spectacular as we thought it would be. The only worthwhile device on the network is the G1 and that’s not everyone’s cup of tea. T-Mo plans to keep expanding its HDSPA network to more than 100 U.S. cities, but without proper devices to utilize that high-speed network it’s sort of a “who cares” fact. Nevertheless this is what T-Mobile has to say about their 3G expansion.
· T-Mobile has made tremendous progress towards the broad availability of its high-speed (3G) network and 3G-capable products and services. Currently our 3G network is available to more than 100M people in more 130 U.S. cities.
· In 2009, T-Mobile will strengthen and grow its 3G (HSDPA) network in existing markets and expand to more than 100 additional U.S. cities – doubling the numbering of people we can reach with wireless broadband service.

T-Mobile’s network isn’t going to mean diddly unless they make the 2100 frequency available for upload and download. Most major phone companies are not going to make the equipment for its current 1700/2100 frequency. I’m with T-Mobile and am waiting another six months to see if they do this.
Are you people stupid enough to believe TMobile’s BS about its 3G roll out?
TMobile has done NOTHING, ZERO PROGRESS other than lip service to its customers and the media about a roll out this year. Or was it a possible roll out. No maybe it was a could be roll outs. TOTAL BS. TMOBILE IS JACKING WITH ITS CUSTOMERS and the media is stupid to not report the facts.
If it was real give me one good reason they wouldn’t give some kind of scheduled dates or even months or years as to when a city maybe getting 3g. EVERY OTHER CARRIER has national broadband coverage. Its not like they care what TMobile does.
And before you start responding yes TMobile does have a few major markets but a HUGH part of the US has nothing.
I spoke with a TMO rep a few weeks ago and they confirmed to me that only the largest cities will ever get 3G because they make up the vast majority of users and that it could be 6 years before we can all receive 3G coverage. Granted this is just one random CSR but that was their understanding.
Its plain BS about tmobile 1700/2100 band. They did it on purpose so we wouldn’t have a choice but to buy one of their crappy phones to get into their 3g network. BLAH!
Hello All !
I just spoke to tmobile support They dont know when standard frequency range on 3g network will be supported. Prior to my last call, for the pass 4 or 5 years I had conversations with tmo support inquiring params on supported frequency. Nothing but promises. G1 is a good phone, but I like Nokia E71. It works on ATT and europe, africa, asia, central america, etc. But not on tmobile in usa. Waiting for them to reponse to customers needs, is a waste of time. Today in 2009 mobile phones support fast web, with support for video streaming, email and other smart phone capabilities With enough computing power to use power hungry applications like 3D games, as well as gps, business apps. not to forget that you can still make excellent voice calls.
If other companies offering a better product, it makes sense to switch carriers.
