In another example of out-of-control electronic violence, another good man was been struck dead thanks to video gaming. According to the Telegraph, Tim Eves, a 25-year-old scoutmaster and fisherman from Yarmouth, Norfolk in the UK, died while running in place on the Wii Fit.
Actually, this is quite a bittersweet story. Eves apparently died of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome and could have died doing almost anything that day but, because he was on a Wii balance board, the news stories tonight will probably run into the hyperbolic.
We all loved him so much.”
Mr Eves, who lived in Hopton-on-Sea, near Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, died at home just moments after speaking with his mother, June.
She said: “We spoke to him on the phone when he was playing on the Wii machine. He told us he had just ordered himself a kebab and was sitting there with a glass of port.
Sounds like he went out around people he loved doing something he enjoyed. You can’t ask for much more.

What a poor guy. But now, like you said, the media will go crazy with stuff like “Man Dead because of Wii!”
It doesn’t help that the headlines imply that directly even though its most likely not the cause. Headlines are just attention grabs to news that is slightly related. Odds are extremely low that Wii Fit is related to his passing in any way shape or form. He likely would have died if he were sleeping.
I didn’t even know there was an SADS, I had enough issue understanding SIDS.
Sad news all around for someone to live a normal life and up and die.
Sudden Adult Death? Is that something akin to having a heart attack?
Oh and yeah, but no, it’s also known as Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndrome. It’s not the same as a heart attack but it does involve the heart going wrong.
I agree with Eric. I offer my sympathy to his family and friends. But there doing a post Morten on him because he died playing the Wii. Has everyone who forgot about Marc-Vivien Foé. And to get this I used wikipedia only to find a huge list of football players who died during a football game. You never hear about them though. You know also fit and healthy. but as dieing on the Wii is a first it makes the papers and some headlines. Someone was also crushed by a pallet of stock in B&Q in Dublin yesterday. Nice to see that get headlines. Here are mine, which deserves more of the spotlight? “man dies playing wii-fit” or “man crushed by pallet of stock in B&Q health and safety blunder”??? You choose!
If it was good it would have gone to the market
My theory is that somebody saw this article [ http://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/content/news/story.aspx?brand=ENOnline&category=News&tBrand=ENOnline&tCategory=News&itemid=NOED28%20Mar%202009%2011%3A10%3A48%3A023 ] and decided the headline of man dies playing Wii Fit would be eyecatching. I think they were right considering how many articles and blogs have sprung up about it. The only good thing that could come of it is if it makes people aware of SADS at all.
