Well it seems like on their official blog, the increase is only $1-$2 on the low tiered plans. That I could stomach, maybe even the new $17 rate. But those increases they added pushing that one plan over $20 and those $5-$9 increases on higher tiered plans, they really shouldn’t have gone so high IMO.

There’s a reason why people chose plans under a certain amount. Those who wanted to stay under $20 and still get Blu-ray could, not now. Similar for those who chose under $25, $30, etc. It was what they thought they could budget for and now they have to rebudget or reduce their plans. Did Netflix not consider that?

That’s a bad business strategy these days IMO. Maybe another $1, but $3 or $4 makes people reconsider. Especially when many people are counting every penny these days. I would be a new subscriber, but I don’t think I’d opt for the extra $4 per month since SD is still good enough for me.

Poorly worded. “…an increase that’s triple or quadruple what you’re paying now for your online DVD rental service.” That should read a quadruple increase on the blu-ray premium. No one’s Netflix subscription is quadrupling in price.

The $1 increase is no issue to me.

I cancelled my Netflix subscription after receiving the e-mail about the increase to $4. I accepted the $1 increase gracefully, but this is too large a jump in price too quickly for me to swallow.

I am one of the early netflix subscribers paying cheaper for 4 disc at a time. However, netflix just sent me an email saying my $1 charge will now be $5. I am now a former blu-ray subscriber.

This is a just a price increase hidden in a “you get more message”. Blue Ray discs provide exactly the same movie but just at a higher resolution. That is what technology does over time – it improves – and prices stay the same or fall (e.g. e-books, audio, software and so on)

Netflix is attempting to drive through a price increase during a recession…it is just that simple.

This is ridiculous. i begrudgingly accepted the extra amount they began charging for Blu Ray last year.

I enjoy the stock they carry, no one else can match them for foreign and independent cinema, but where does it end? I’m seriously considering canceling the bluray or my account altogether i don’t think adding blu ray access is worth the ever increasing fees

Lame for them to increase the prices. It’s possible to rent 3 movies in HDX on VUDU for less than $20 a month.

I guess that is a perk of not having to have physical inventory.
