Famous crap gadget maker Thanko has updated its website over the weekend with yet another whacky USB device. Believe it or not but they are now selling a USB cigarette. Everyone is familiar with the concept of electric cigarettes by now, but Thanko’s version works in a slightly different way.

Thanko says its USB cigarette is particularly healthy as it doesn’t have nicotine or tar. Users inhale a substance that apparently tastes like sweet mint, but my guess is smokers are supposed to get the feeling of holding and smoking a cigarette.

The cigarette charges via USB (which takes 2-3 hours for some reason) and comes with an atomizer and 11 filter butts. It costs $33 and should show up in Thanko’s English online store soon.

  • Oops! You gotta mistake here Serkan. It’s kind of a BIG one. You claim that the electronic-cigarette maker Thanko says its product has no nicotine. Wake-up! What are they selling if not a smokeless delivery of nicotine in a vapor form. Besides I don’t think Thank made that claim, since all of the other media outlets describe Thanko’s press release with the nicotine info.

I’m most concerned with your promoting a product you don’t know much about — particularly whether it is safe or dangerous. E-cigs are more than just suspect. Looks like they could be highly toxic — read poisonous. The FDA calls e-cigs “new drugs” and may soon pull them off the market. The American Cancer Society, Cancer Action Network, American Heart Assn and American Lung Assn — all agree that electronic cigarettes should be pulled off the market. Then there’s the World Health Organization which says the product may be highly poisonous and that the product makers are committing fraud by using the WHO logo and name in advertising and packaging. The makers of e-cigs claim that they are safe but have absolutely no scientific studies to back up their claims. No evidence. No proof. Just their word “believe us, so we can make money.”

Ethic Soup blog posted an excellent article on the subject at:

The cost of stopping your cigarette habit does not have to be breathing toxic poisons into your lungs from a pretend cigarette!

  • Sharon, If it is in fact poisonous then it would never have been placed on the market. Things like this go through testing so they are safe etc. If it is poisonous then there has been an oversight, which I don’t doubt. It is a good idea though.

  • I don’t know if you know this Sharon, maybe you’re a little behind, but real cigarettes are highly toxic – read poisonous.

A vaporized delivery of less toxins can only be less toxic because of the lack of combustion and the content control. These artificial cigarettes (or at least their future iterations) will no doubt save lives.

  • nice gadget huh… and it is a pretty cool… i wanted to have one…
