I recall picking up my PS2 on launch day back in 2000 and I sure played the hell out of that thing. I must have played Ridge Racer and Madden for hours on end, but it wasn’t by choice. Heh. There weren’t too many titles that interested me at launch, but I played the heck out of Sunny Garcia Surfing and SoCom. I hope it still works.
Today, John Koller confirmed that the PS2’s price would drop to $99.99 starting tomorrow following the rumor that leaked out of Kmart yesterday. It’s been nine years and that console has sold over 50 million units to date. I just saw the latest batch of PS2s while I was in San Francisco for GDC and I almost didn’t recognize it because of how small it was. I wonder if the PS3 will shrink down that much. Anyone still have the original PS2?
I remember getting my PS2 about 6 months or so after launch, I can’t remember my first games though I know Madden featured heavily by choice… Gran Turismo quickly took over in the coming years.
Still have that original PS2 and still playing GT4 when I get a chance between my wee boys bed time and mine. Don’t play much else though.
I may well get a PS3 eventually, after more price drops, and GT5 if it’s ever released… though to be honest don’t really feel the need.

I still play my original PS2 every second day. I go to the bargain bin at my local game shop and pick up cheap games every couple of weeks. I still have the original Playstation as well, works perfectly too, still play the games on that as well.
I do all of that gaming on one soncole now its a PS3(60GB). But, yeah I still own my PS, PS2, DC, XBOX, Nintendo, SNES, GameBoy, Gameboy Pocket, Gameboy Advanced, DS, Neo Geo Pocket, and a Turbo Grafx 16. Though I only have 2 card games for that system got it at a yard sale. Im collectiong for that great day when I am ready to retire.
I still have two of the original PS2’s. Really wish my PS3 played old PS2 games, that would be pretty nice.
I do still have my origional bulky PS2…I even have the paper work to send it in to Sony to have the burnt out fan replaced. Just need to part with it long enough for the round trip! Granted I replaced it with the newer slimer version s a few weeks after it doed the first time, and now have a PS3…but I can’t just send my baby off to Sony…its currently serving as a bookend on my game shelf.
Yes, I have a orignal PS2 from launch, I have played the shit out of the console. It hasn’t been used in a few years though, I have a backwards compatiable 80gb PS3. I rarely go back and play last gen games, I have quite the selection of xbox and PS3 games though.
