Those of you who just cannot wait till Apple approves the Sirius XM iPhone app may want to check out Pocket Tunes Radio [iTunes link], from Ted’s iPhone Application Emporium NormSoft. With its latest update, to version 5.2, this $9.99 iPhone (and iPod touch) application can tune into both Sirius and XM stations, provided you have a functional Sirius XM subscription.
There are separate instruction for getting Sirius and XM working on your iPhone. (Sirius here, XM here.) The application tunes into both services’ Web-based streams (so it’s not an iPhone-sepcific stream you’re tuning into, rather the regular Web stream).
The question then becomes whether or not you’re willing to pay $9.99 in order to listen to Howard Stern or Opie and Anthony. (May I add that, again, Sirius’ coverage of the Winter Music Conference was outstanding—so many live sets!)
That is all.

Would this drain an insane amount of battery or just typical like AOL Radio or Pandora? Also, will this get interrupted once a call or text kicks in?
Battery life not too bad! text messages do not disrupt the audio stream. It’s a pretty nice application.
Do you know it takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile?!?!?!?
FRRRRRRUNKIS!
I’m so glad Ted has taken time off from his lightbulb emporium to work on the iPhone!!
what he worked in a lightbulb emporiom like mr megoriams wonderful emporiom
I got salmonella from Ted’s Hand-painted Pistachios…fRRRRRRunkis!
Finally I can get XM on my Iphone without having to stream from my home computer. Works Great.
wow! so now i can listen to my $12 per month lamer-by-the-minute XM subscription on my iphone?!?!
oh wait, XM decided to start charging EVEN MORE MONEY to listen on the web. I hate you XM.
Nick,
The uSirius StarPlayr was killed by Apple or Sirius/XM. So its NEVER coming out. :( :(
So as of right now this is the only way to do it. Also, rumor has it that Sirius/XM is coming out with their own app. Sure to suck and cost $$$$
Also, I am pissed that they make you pay MORE for online streaming! Streaming is cheaper for them to do then boncing singles off of satellites so you would think they would encourage that behavior not punish it.
Next update of ooTunes Radio has it as well.
This does not work. It will not allow me to login to my Sirius account. What a rip off!!!!!!!!!!!!
the app from Sirius is supposed to be free. but who knows when it’s going to come out….
i have been doign this set up within orb.com. Biggest problem is that you need to have WIFI to play it, so it really only works for the most part where you would have a computer anyway. Is this still the case for this? Or will this stream on EDGE?
Great app — thanks to the creators of Pocket Tunes Radio — I had been impatiently waiting for when Sirius XM make their official satellite radio streaming app for iPhone/iPod Toucb which now won’t be released until at least the second fiscal quarter of this year — why wait that long though when you can get your Sirius XM radio fix from iPhone/iPod Touch sooner with Pocket Tunes Radio.
Was excited for the app but when I first loaded it I couldn’t get Sirius to work at all, but I left it go and tried later and it loads real fast and smooth, even when switching channels. Couldn’t ask for anything better.
Only problem is I can’t get a radio station to load, is there anything different I need to do?
update to above question ^^^^^^^^^^
tried two random radio stations and they loaded just fine, for some reason the one I want just isn’t loading.
This works perfect for Sirius. Add Backgrounder to your iPhone and then you can listen while using any other app.
There is no such app as Backgrounder. The SDK prevents any app to run in the background.
There is such an app, but it’s not for the sheep in the Apple crowd. ;)
BTW, a search engine is a wonderful thing
Only 1/2 of XM’s online stations is on my Pocket Tunes ??
why cant I get ALL of XM’s online stations ?
Note : I said ONLINE stations.. Not Normal Stations.
anyone know if I’m doing something wrong?
Pocket Tunes isn’t worth 2 cents if I can’t get the XM stations that I can get online..
I listen to 3 XM stations.. and only -1- is available with Pocket Tunes
Did you go to Web and log in like you do on your computer? If you do that, you can add the station you are listening to to Favorites.
It does appear there was an update to the stations this morning. See if they added the ones you like.
Can you get this on 3G or do you need Wifi? Has anyone got it to work without Wifi?
Also for Sirius account could you use it on more than one Iphone. For instance if me and my roomate have Sirius could we both put it on separate ipods and only have to pay once.
It works on 3G.
Sirius online player website that PocketTunes logs into will eventually recognize that a user ID is being used in two different places at the same time and log both of you out.
I’ve been listening to XM for years. Thought things would be better with Sirus. It just gets worse by the day. If my company didn’t pay for this I’d turn it off. Sooooooooooooo many comercials. It really is Bad Bad Bad.
