I also just got off the phone with Tmobile cust support data service and they are telling me that "G1 cannot be used as as modem" and I asked again to clarify and they said its not possible. So if they are saying that this cannot happen then charging us tethering cannot happen too. I qwould watch my monyhly bill very closely and file a complain if there additional charges.

Well, I just got off the phone with my T Mobile rep and I specifically asked if using my phone as a modem is permissible. His exact words were "T Mobile doesn't support tethering, but it's your phone you can do whatever you want to it. You can search on google and find ways to turn your phone into a modem". So whatevs, this news isn't a big deal.

Yeah cause nothing makes me feel good about a company like having them charge me a for data and then charge me again for the 'same' data.
You want to know why all cel companies are universally reviled, it's this kind of BS right here.

Good thing the majority of us at Android Community already have root and the install, and running files backed up on our SDs :-P

So I guess they are going to charge me twice for my 10 gigs a month would be the plan?

For anybody who cares, you can also visit Android Community (or XDA.Developers.com) from the link above and learn to tether specific ports via USB, so although you can only affectively use one web soft at a time, it's still great for productivity purposes.
