For a geek, living in Tokyo has many advantages. Being tempted to go check if infamous crap gadget vendor and USB specialist Thanko is for real, isn’t one of them. But I finally went to Akihabara, the world’s geek heaven in the center of Tokyo to find answers. And the rumors are true, Thanko does exist.
Thanko is a manufacturer that attaches a USB cable to everything. Drink warmer? Check. Humping dog? Check. Cigarette? Check. Mouse containing a floating duck? Check. So when we discovered they were a real company, we were flabbergasted.
They even have a total of four stores where they sell mind-boggling stuff like the USB gloves, the USB boob warmer, the heated PC mouse, and the geek cushion. I took the photos (see below) in their flagship store, which is basically a dump-like maze sized at about 30sqm. The USB boob warmer was sold out, unfortunately.

But by accident, I saw the pillow for perverts that I recently covered (no USB, therefore no Thanko connection) for sale in another Akihabara store (see the picture above).

Does the hand do what I think it does?
I want one!! :)
lol hand and the job :P
I want to click through the pics, but it takes so dang long for the ads to load on the crunchgear page it’s almost impossible.
No Thanko…
It should be ‘Sanko’ or ‘Sun-kou’ rather than ‘Thanko’. Original pronounciation is ’san-kou’. Its trademark is moutain with sunlight. ‘ko’ means ‘light’.
It seems that Another shop is ‘Akiba-ou’ (’ou’ means ‘king’). We often call it ‘Baoo-’ instead of ‘Akiba-ou’.
Heh, I’m curious about that Media Prayer…
So what – we have been buying all this online for years from their website http://www.thanko.jp

Well played, Elmo.
1st pic looks like Radio Shack but with weird ass shit. I gotta get me one of those car laptop holders.
I thought their Bukkake USB hub was a low-point.
Lived in Tokyo for four years – Laugh perhaps but Akihabara is a serious resource and very fanous. All Tokyo areas have a topic – you just go to the topic and enjoy the experience e.g Hatchico a faithful dog who died witing for his sick master (statue) with a story everybody in Tokyo knows is the meeting place. “Meet you at Hatchico, Sunday 3pm”
It Works.
