Sony has fired a peremptory strike against the Nintendo DSi, launching tomorrow. In a harshly worded letter they wrote:
If Nintendo is really committed to reaching a broader, more diverse audience of gamers beyond the “kids” market that they’ve always engaged, there isn’t much new with the DSi to support that. Significant gamer demographic groups are being ignored, and there continues to be limited opportunities for games from external publishers to do well on the DSi. Compare that with the PSP platform, where we have many blockbuster franchises from our publishing partners launching this year, representing a wide variety of genres and targeting diverse demographics. Games such as Rock Band Unplugged from MTV Games, Assassin’s Creed from Ubisoft, Dissidia Final Fantasy from Square Enix, and Hannah Montana from Disney demonstrate the commitment that publishers have to the PSP. From our own first-party studios, we’re launching unique versions of LittleBigPlanet and MotorStorm, and we’re also planning a steady stream of downloadable games — both new titles and PSone classics — to add to the content that PSP owners can already purchase wirelessly through PlayStation Store.
WHOMP!
Take a look at one line in there: “there continues to be limited opportunities for games from external publishers to do well on the DSi.” What Sony is really saying is that “hey, we’re not as harsh as Nintendo when it comes to what can pop up on the DSi and what can’t! Bring us your Custer’s Revenge or Dead Rising clone with more cursing and boobs! We’ll put it in a brown box and sell the heck out of it.”
Obviously the DS is outselling the PSP 2-to-1 and Sony needs a win on the next iteration. However, it might as well push the PSP dingy out into the water to sink on her own. I doubt there will be a single game on par with anything the DSi has to offer in terms of sheer hype and popularity, even given that the DSi is for “kids.”

That’s just a low blow. The DS has some great adult games, like the Ace Attorney / Phoenix Wright series, Professor Layton and alot of RPG’s such as Golden Emblem, Final Fantasy and whatnot.
I sold my PSP simply because of lack of good games. The sony guy describes it pretty well, with lower end ports making up for most of the PSP library. I want games specifically made with the PSP in mind, such as Loco Roco. Not watered down ports of PS3 games.
I’m considering buying a DS (along with a R4 slot, of course) because the DS just has a better lineup.
I have both. i love the graphics on the psp, but there very few games. I end up playing my ds all the time. or dsi i should say, now. The bigger screen is nice but i really got it for the dsi shop. i love the app store for my itouch, so i figured it would be great to have on my ds. the itouch is great but i kill the battery in no time and the ds library of games is more extensive.
Yo DSi your mommas titties looking dope yo!
LMAO! TELLY!
Sony= MAJOR BUTTHURT!
Sony : You’re a childs little play thing.
NOA: You are one sad little man.
Sony: You’re a toy you idiot!
I have to agree with sony the ds only has little childrens games
OMG! Sony is my mother’s lover! Please take my child Sony and raise him to be our king! Would you people stop this madness! Nintendo is kicking Sony’s butt all over the place and doing it with hardware that cost originally half as much as Sony’s expensive crap. Nintendo makes great games for the whole family not porno/violent filled stuff meant to appeal the the lowest common denominator. Zelda, Mario, Advanced wars, Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing are legends in gaming history; get real!
2 to 1 YEAH RIGHT its a lot more than that globally dsi and ds conbined NO F-ING CONTEST
spinning disc medium = obsolete
single screened handhelds= obsolete
no touch screen = obsolete
load times = ur aving a laff sony
if its not dualscreened its obsolete if its not dual screened its obsolete if its disc based and sony stick based in a sd card and flash era then its pure stink
sony knows nothing about gaming
weres the dual motion and shape and colour and face recognition cams sony because dsi has them ouch
you are right wiiboy101,and the dsi is more better for kids or older people,it have so many different games.
i think its hard to compare psp and dsi. psp can do things that dsi cant, like watch movies, but dsi can do things that psp cant, like take pictures ( u have to buy a Go!Cam for psp to take pics). i prefer dsi because it has more games for the casual gamer.
I had no problem, as an older adult gamer, finding a multitude of great games for my new DSi in the catagories I enjoy. In fact, I have purchased 16 of them with more on my wish list. Sony…get real!!
i dont know what some or most of you are saying but all I have to say is this:
I dont have the psp or the dsi but you should not fight over it, everyperson has a different appinion of things. Although i really do want the dsi!!!!!
