CB2, Child-robot with Biomimetic Body, is slowly learning how to recognize facial expressions. He’s already taught himself how to walk by observing humans do it. Hopefully no one’s using a machete around this thing, else we’re all in really big trouble.
All joking aside, this is some interesting long-term research. I recall reading about similar “robot education” efforts more than a decade ago, whereby a robot “brain” was given raw stimuli and left to its own devices to try to learn. CB2 “brings together robotics engineers, brain specialists, psychologists and other experts, and is supported by the state-funded Japan Science and Technology Agency.” Such multi-disciplinary research efforts are tough to coordinate.
Here’s hoping that CB2 grows up to be a well-adjusted, productive member of robo-society.

Hmmm. Things that make you go “hmm” Well, here’s to hoping it’s used for good scientific research that will help thousands of people.
Destination: Void an older book by Frank Herbert about creating artificial intelligence, but still an interesting read.

I am going to suspend my voice of judgment and say this is amazing. But they better keep one eye open.
Gosh this photo is so creepy! the ” death like” eyes and the grey skin!
but the robotic and AI advances looks likea big big advance!
This is where the uncanny valley comes into effect.
O.O

All joking aside, I hope that this really brings the world of robotics into an age where robots can become household items
Agh..

wat is wrong with u people? wat if this thing teaches itself how to kill huh? yeah then the people who created it would regret making it
