[...] Read our review or watch the two demo videos on Pogoplug’s site for a good run down of the service. I found it easy to use and thorough. In fact, I think it’s the easiest way to share local content online either through a direct URL, email, iPhone app, RSS feeds or through social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, or MySpace. There is even an option to send out a notification when files have been added or removed. [...]

Maybe I don't get it right.. my hope was that it was a real server, so I could steam my music from another computer and work on a collaboration document without the download-edit-upload-delte_old_doc confusing route.. but by this review I get the feeling that it is still no good

Thanks for your review - I think I might get one. A few questions: Can you assign drive letters easily? Can other users also see that drive letter you have assigned? (P: in your case). Can you map a drive to a folder on your USB drive for security? Also, please be patient as I'm don't have any background with networks etc. I have a wireless web connection that a friend set up; do I need to create a home network or fiddle with the settings in any way? Surfing to a web site to establish a drive letter is no problem (or running some app to make the drive letter appear).

Thanks!

it appears that the pogoplug may come with software you can install, so that when using your own WLAN or LAN network at home (or wherever) it routes traffic locally without calling up pogoplug.com
This way it should reduce bandwidth usage as well.

I got my PogoPlug today, this thing is awesome. Once you have downloaded the Windows driver, it appears as just another local drive (P: on my config). Not much else to say, it works exactly like other drives, is pretty fast, and can be used both when I'm on the LAN and when I'm traveling.

How much better could it get?

Well, a lot, actually. They are opening up APIs, so I'd expect plenty of very useful 3rd party apps to pop up. For example, I'd love for my TiVo to be able to connect to my PogoPlug and show me the list of movies and pictures that are stored there.

Anyway, best $99 ever spent, totally worth it (in my case, it was a preorder so I only paid $70 for it, but still, you get my point)
