Is it too soon to release a video game based on the Iraq War? Not if you’re Konami, which will publish the Atomic Games-devloped Six Days in Fallujah, a survival horror game set during the Second Battle of Fallujah. Needless to say, some folks aren’t happy about this.

A British Army colonel is calling for the game, which is scheduled for release next year for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, to be banned in the UK—if not the world. Says the colonel:

Considering the enormous loss of life in the Iraq War, glorifying it in a video game demonstrates very poor judgement and bad taste. It is particularly crass when you consider what actually happened in Fallujah…

To be fair to Konami, it did enlist the help of several veterans of the battle for their input. So it’s inaccurate to characterize this as every member of the Multi-National Force being upset.

What strikes me most, as a gamer, is that the game will be a survival horror game, but one without the typical survival horror elements like zombies or monsters. In a sense, it’s more along the lines of Silent Hill, what with its horror being equally steeped in psychology as dogs-crashing-through-windows fright. Apparently, the survival horror comes from the “unpredictable, terrifying, and very real tactics employed by the insurgents that were scattered throughout Fallujah.”

Pretty odd premise, but I’ll wait till I see the game before I condemn Konami for being insensitive jerks. That’s only fair.

  • terrible idea. but I am sure there are enough weirdos that can’t wait to spend their last $ on it :(

  • I dunno, it doesn’t really bother me. I don’t see how this is different from games based on WWII – there are vets around from that too

  • Real war is more horror than zombies and monsters and the silent hill you refer to. Maybe we wouldn’t mis-use our soldiers as often if war wasn’t so often glorified.

  • well they went to that pointless war, lost our citizens(warriors) lives and now they want to censor it? let the world see how terrifying war is in reality so they wouldn’t want to go to war without real mean.

  • All yall are crazy to condemn this but yet not condemn all the other war or military games. Our own government puts out this kind of stuff. There are WWII games Korean War games Vietnam war games, as well as just plain war games. There are also a ton of “military strategy” games. If you any of you are going to condemn one, condemn them all. “massive loss of life” is what yall say, but look at all the lives of good people on both sides that were lost in WWII. (called the war to end all wars-not so) How do you think people feel who lost loved ones in those other wars that have to see and hear about all the WWII games?

  • I think everyone needs to calm down about this. if u think that this game is an outrage. Than I think you are an outrage. People are way too PC nowadays. If you don’t like it than don’t buy it. It’s that simple. Don’t ruin it for the others who see the benifit of having a game like this. whoo rhaa

  • There are WW2 games, Korean War games, WW1 games(one guy alive whot!), Vietnam Games, Gulf War Games and games about stuff we know is going to happen( Yep the second invanson of North Korea is coming any day now) and people don’t care about those veterans. So what’s the difference?

  • I like the game such as this

  • What seems wrong or different is, we all know how ugly the war was taken place in Iraq.

So to make it as a game.. Isn’t it seems like a mockery..?

You know there is this word called, “Sensitivity’.

    =)

  • He has a point. One thing though. I don’t understand why we make war games anyway if we all know what happens war and what it brings. Death, sorrow, torment.

  • well, i realy think this game will be truely awsome. Also many games are based on iraq but they try to hide it. This shouldnt affend anyone because this game shows the true things that our brave soilders do as an everyday basis as a American Soilder. Besides most soilders would not mind because they have better things to think about after the war.

  • wars keep the economy going good!! not to say of the funeral busness’s. you stab em and i will slab em………….more wars…yea.yea……..

    • are u like 12 wars cost money out of every ones pocket that pay taxes in the united states so if u actually have a job thats where ur money is going to pointless crap in Iraq my brother is in the army and he thinks it would be great to have a game about it

  • this will help me prepare for the draft. God forbid. but if it keeps me alive ima get it

  • The one thing I find absolutely stupid about people being upset for this reason is that nothing was said about the hundreds of WWII games. Many more people have died in WWII, yet games of that era are STILL being made, no one says anything other than complaints because it’s been done too many times. So it doesn’t make sense that they ban this game because people died in Fallujah, people die in every war, no matter the place, it just doesn’t make sense that they must call this one out and not any other.

  • First off I am active duty Marine Corps, and I was in this battle. So right away I know that the game will not be even 80% real for what I saw and did whiel I was over there, second I am willing to bet that not a one of you have been over there so dont talk about knowing what goes on. Now with that said I am looking forward to the game since it is only a game, not to mention we lost more military on the first day we invaded Normandy than we have this entire war so the Pig headed Conservitives can shut up and get over it.

  • well first of all I’m a vet of the Iraq war and I wouldn’t see anything wrong about making the game Iraq war. or anything that has to do with iraq. and plus I’m a really big gamer. and there are already games that have things that have stuff about iraq in it lik come of the call of dutie games. and I just have to say to the comment about how people would send their last $ on games like this. well your damn right I would I like my war games and if you don’t like it then don’t buy it and if you don’t play games then why are you worried about why or how people spend their money. So I hope they do make a game of Iraq I don’t think that is putting down the military. cause if so then they need to not worry about makeing anymore WWI, WWII or and vetenam games. SO people that don’t like games just shut up and mind your own bussiness and let the games enjoy doing what they like to do. and if anyone has any thing to say about what I wrote plz feel free to send me a reply or email. have a good day.

  • if there is a game about war in iraq, i think it should not presents the iraqies as a stupid barberian comedy assholes as in COD4 or conflict desert storm and should not present iraq as sandy villige

  • ok first of all people need to shut the fuck up its just a game im surprised that no one made a game about iraq earlier i cant wait until its out. And game developers have the right to make anything they want. I SUPPORT THIS GAME! Scott thank you for your service in the US Military I myself was stationed in Germany during the cold war, and again thank you for your comment at least you aren’t trying to get it banned in the whole country.

  • Usmc pmi has a good point i am still active miltary also so do not talk about what u do not know i spent the first year their as a master gunner on the 50 cal michine gun running the roads every single day. It does not matter what branch you are in every one in the armed forces are our brothers and sisters.the only thing i do not understand is why cant they finish it and put it out before i go back in december

  • There is absolutely nothing wrong with making this Game, im not going to go and repeat everyone prior to me has said, but there is no difference in this game compared to the others. I, myself think it is a very good idea to make games based on true events.
