VBeat has an interesting article on BumpTop, a Windows overlay that adds a little 3D to the Windows desktop that moves all the crap you don’t really use – widgets and the like – to a set of 3D walls and stacks up files and folders a la OS X stacks.
BumpTop can get by with a 1.4-gigahertz processor, a gigahertz of main memory, and an integrated graphics card. Those components aren’t necessarily all that demanding. But if you have lots of items on your desktop, it will slow down and choke on the processing task. It’s better to use a machine with a dedicated 3-D graphics processor.
The light version of the app is free and a more powerful version costs $29. Give it a gander.

Oh I need to upgrade to a gigahertz of main memory right now!
…
bloops. that was a direct quote from venturebeat. Maybe they have a different measurement system over there?
Hehe maybe! I’d sure like me some though.
@Biggs
“stacks up files and folders a la OS X stacks”
You do know that apple did not created this concept of stacks? Actually the first time I saw this concept was way before OSX implemented Stacks. So stop giving credit to Apple for what they did not create.
That sir, is physically impossible.
I first tried this years ago and while it was interesting and I’m sure that it has improved since then – my revelation was that I actually don’t use my desktop at all. I do like the circle right click though.
He didn’t say Apple created the concept, just that it is similar to that feature in OS X. Get a grip.
I think i had this once. or something similar. But i didn’t have a gigahertz of memory so it didnt work properly, lol.
I am afraid this is VERY old actually.
It is one of my oldest faovirted videos on YouTube.

And I still feel the same.
This thing is utterly USELESS.
It takes one of the biggest advantages of a computer, that it can automatically organize everything for you and make it easily searchable and filable…. and tosses it all way!
I don’t keep my desk messy because I like it that way, I keep it messy because I am lazy, and there is no ability to Right Click->Arrange by Name in real life.
If I could somehow make my desk magically organize itself like my computer can, I would. I don’t want my computer to replicate my messy desk.
There is NO point or advantage to this interface, especially if you deal with a large amount of files at once.
I cannot believe in all the years they spent developing this, they never stopped to think “Gee, this entire thing is kinda counter-productive and useless, going AGAINST the very things that make people prefer a computer to pen and paper documents”
Its like making a car that goes 5MPH and needs to be peddled!
Ugly UI.
