RCTiger is now free

Obviously it’s really hard to convince people to drive tanks in a German office remotely over the Internet for a few Eruro so the folks at RCTiger have now made their service free.

The service, as you’ll recall, is basically a fun game that lets multiple players compete in real-time using model tanks in a cute little wooded playing field. They’ve made the game run 24/7 now and are basically giving away spots for free, presumably to amuse and enthuse audiences who might be put off by paying for such a service.

Here’s our own video of gameplay but feel free to pop over and give it a try.

  • I remember thinking that it would be cool to set up something like this with RC planes back in high school. Without the internet angle of course. I hadn’t heard of the internet in the 80’s. Seems kind of lame now though.

The real question is why would you even bother to simulate reality with physical models when you can do just as well with a modern graphics card – better really what’s the point of a tank simulation if you cant have explosions and stuff.

  • This sounds really cool. I am gonna try it right away!

  • Grmpf… I really would like to give it a try. If only their server would be available. They obviously should seriously think of pimping their upstream.

  • Wow that looks cool. Free is the best price. :)

@Allen It is more fun and challenging to mix the real world and technology. Otherwise it is just a video game.

  • RC Tiger is cool. RC Tiger which is FREE is the coolest!

  • Dear folks at RCTiger, Am I missing something? Where is the sign up page? RC Tiger sounds very cool.

    • no sign up…just hit play when at tank is ready…

need a decent connection (good latency) and you don’t want to be behind a paranoid firewall (like work)… as they block all our ports…

  • Guys, if you like tanks you’ll love the tank pong style game I just launched for the iPhone called iCombat ($0.99).

Sorry to self promote but I figure if you got this far in the comments you’d probably dig it…
