You guys really love Windows 7! One of those fancy research firms conducted a poll and found that 44 percent of people (IT professionals) said they were “very satisfied” with the beta. Finding 44 percent of people to agree on anything is hard enough, but to find these people showering Windows 7 with love must make Microsoft a very proud papa indeed.
Here’s where we bash Vista, because it’s fashionable to do so: at the a similar time in the beta life cycle, Vista could only find 10 percent of people who were satisfied. Clearly Microsoft is doing something right here.
And let’s go ahead an define “something right”: faster boot times, less consumption of memory, etc. Sounds like what Vista should have been from the get-go, right?
Speaking of Vista, it’s looking more and more that, years from now, people will answer the question “Remember Windows Vista?” with “Vista? What the hell are you talking about?” In the same survey that found people in love with Windows 7, 55 percent of business said they plan to skip Vista altogether, and just wait for Windows 7 to launch. (A release candidate is scheduled for release next month; the operating system should launch by early 2010, three years after Vista launched.) That’s how annoyed people are with Vista, which, to be fair, has a worse reputation than it deserves, if my brief playing around with it is any indication of its merits.
Now is the part where I ask y’all how Windows 7 is treating you. Right after the beta’s release, many of you seemed pretty happy with it. Doug, Dave and Devin (our resident Windows users) seem to like it, too, judging by their chat room comments.

Still love it, can’t wait for the full release.
I still have 7 love, but am terribly afraid of what it’s going to cost to put it on 3 home computers!
Early rumors of ~$340+/ultimate license is absurd!
We NEED mac-like pricing structures here M$FT
mac like pricing features just seems funny. But their OS is the cheapest part of their system.
get windows 7 family pack :150 dollars for three pcs upgrade
Been using the beta(s) on various computers/environments, including a few netbooks, a work machine, and have zero complaints. Miles beyond Vista, and even better than XP on the netbooks, surprisingly.
better in which ways on the netbooks? does it somehow run on them faster (less resources/ memory)? are there any options in W7 which are optimized for netbooks?
I’ve been using it for the past couple months and it feels more like a full release than a beta. Microsoft has actually been listening to user feedback this time around which has been a big help. They definitely have a winner here, imo.
That’s good to hear. Here’s hoping Microsoft doesn’t bottle Windows 7, and I say that as a Mac user.
VISTA IS STILL THE BEST
I DON’T KNOW HOW ANY BODY CAN LOVE VISTA. IN JAN’09 I BOUGHT TWO NOTE BOOKS WITH 4 GIG OF MEMORY AND A 2.26 PROCESSOR, I HAVE HAD TO RECOVER BOTH OF THEM 3 TO 4 TIMES BECAUSE THE WINDOWS INSTALLER STOPPED WORKING AND I COULD NOT ADD NEW PROGRAMS. I CAN’T WAIT FOR WINDOWS 7. IF I HAD KNOWN ABOUT VISTA, I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT ONLY A NOTEBOOK WITH XP.
you..are…dumb
how could some one not know of vista, its been talked about as far back as i believe 2005..
were almost in 2010. give me a break!
thats like saying if i had known about a chevy i wouldnt have bought a saturn instead .. wahh haa you incompetent Vista jack ass…
Love Vista, Love 7 even more, can’t wait.
I get it free through work.
My wife’s Acer notebook was a living hell with Vista. I installed an early beta build of Windows 7 and it has run smoothly and perfectly with no crashes, no lockups, etc. I think the only thing that would make Windows 7 better, would be if it would shoot gold coins and unicorns out the USB ports.
since its beta release, I have been using it as my main OS which is weird, because it feels to me as if its the full product. I wonder what else will show up that I don’t use currently. What really impressed me is the engines used in vista is still there but faster, so all software downloading compatible with vista works perfectly. Windows seems to be coming back and the sooner the better. Also even tho this isn’t the place. Pls Pls Pls, release wm7 already I can’t wait any more
I closed beta tested Vista. It ran great, the only issue I ever had with it was initially file transfers were slow and old printers were not supported. Now it runs awesome.
Windows 7 has had its fair share of bugs. I know I have submitted dozens of bug reports. What is nice with 7 is that some were fixed the next day in patches via update.
Back in January I ignored all the warnings about installing on your primary computer when I upgraded my laptop from Vista. By now I’ve totally forgot that I’m using a beta – I’m only reminded when I see a blog post like this one. It works great, love it, and really miss it when I’m on my office computer running XP.
Yesterday I was doing some updates and stuff on my daughter’s laptop which is still Vista, and I was not liking it at all. This is coming from the same person that defended Vista as being not 1/4 as bad as the buzz it was getting (I didn’t mind when informed people said they didn’t like Vista, but really hated it when people who never once booted it trashed it because of the Mac ads or what they heard from their friend “Larry” who’s “really into computers.”)
I don’t like paying for software but I’ll pay for w7, sign me up.
PS – what’s with all the insults these days? Not even intelligent insults. @d4: “you..are…dumb.” Come on, you can do better than that Chachi!
It is so cool that you can install Win7 from a USB thumb drive. I found out how to do it on http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/dd451022.aspx.
Installing from USB? Oh, you mean what you’ve been able to do with Linux for years now? Whoop. De. Doo.
Big fan of 7. It’s very light and full of features. The antithesis of Vista. The last machine I piloted it on was a ThinkPad T43 with 1 gig of RAM. It installed and ran beautifully. It’s def. the OS to have. Hopefully, it won’t be too pricey.
I’m an admin for an aerospace shop, and we tried Vista on a few machines. Only one, lonely, pathetic machine made it more than a few months without requiring a reformat. One of the machines had to be reformatted 4 times. The recovery tools just plain didn’t work. These machines didn’t play nice with our XP machines, our group policies, our standard software, or anything. Truly a heaping pile of crap.
Microsoft later invited us to some event where they explained some of the cool new features in Vista, and I have to say I was impressed. They gave us a free copy of Vista Ultimate, but even with the spiffy stuff they showed us… it’s been sitting on my shelf, uninstalled, for months. I would never subject myself to that crap.
From what I’ve seen of Win7, the future is looking bright. Though I must say I haven’t given it a thorough ride-around yet. I’m worried I’ll be disappointed like I was with Vista.
