Most of the WSJ article is dribble and a rehash of things we already know, but sources “familiar with the matter” are saying that Jobs is still leading the company from home. And that he has been instrumental in new product development and strategy like OS 3.0 for the iPhone.
Those same sources say that Apple is working on new iPhone and iPod Touch models (duh) as well as a tablet that’s bigger than the aforementioned but smaller than current laptops. Competing with our CrunchPad, huh? Except we already called this back in December.

very nice !
this is great news! 1. steve is recovering 2. iTablet .. sounds cool … can’t wait until june …
Is it called the Crunchpad?
To be honest, the crunchpad looks sexy as hell and I would definitely be buying one way before I bought an apple pad. The uses for the crunchpad seem enormous already. Especially if it is built on open source software.
As far as iPhones and stuff. I’ll likely buy the new one because my 3G is already beat to shit.
You know, I wish the Apple-fawning tech press would at least choose a consistent position. Jobs takes a leave of absence, and everyone and their dog runs articles saying “no big deal, he is just a figurehead, and Apple will keep putting out fantastic products without him. He means nothing, and this should in no way hurt the company.” Then you turn right around and say “don’t worry, he is still instrumental in all new product development, and everything coming out has been properly anointed by his Holy Steveness!”
Stop using logic to “bash” Apple…with your logical argument.
Pretty shrewd move though, and one they should have made months before they did. They took Jobs’ health and eliminated it from having any impact on their stock, while he runs the company from home and in reality little changes. Its a win-win: Jobs gets some degree of privacy back, and Apple goes on with their business without fear of a thin Steve dragging down the company’s value.
Yes, it is a cleaver move. I just find it disturbing that the entire tech blog community is nothing but an arm of the Apple PR department, doing and saying whatever Apple wants them to in order to protect Apple’s stock price.
Good for him. We still want him at apple. Good idea working at home, in comfy environment making himself comfortable and cozy making innovative products!
I Love how you say “we told you so” I mean here at CG every other post is an apple related rumor so getting one right doesn’t impress anyone.
On the top right search bar type RUMOR, within the first 10 result pages there’s 21 apple related crap just there to waste readers time. Lets see how many come true.
Did you take the time to realize that 95 percent of those rumors did not originate from CG? The rumors that we have started regarding Apple have been dead on. Like the MacBook Air that we called before it was the Air. And we’ve uttered that phrase only when warranted. Do you even read CrunchGear?
Sweet. For ~$300 I’m definitely in. Devils in the details though.
Needs:
Decent battery life.
Not too underpowered for graphic intensive sites.
Easy recharge.
802.11G
Hackability – access to the shell.
Mic and Audio
Extra Plusses for :
Expandable SD media for playing music, storing files, etc.
USB or Bluetooth for connecting 3g dongle or external keyboard.
I dont particularly care what Apple may or may not be doing. Seems very unlikely they will make anything decent at this price point.
Actually I do read CG, I happen to think that you guys have good reviews and some of your stories are very entertaining, but my point is that i come here to read CG, not garbage from another website, and that you feel deserves my time. Just filter the shit a little, don’t wanna hear more about iphone nanos or 3.2 mega pixels on new i phone, really? well i dont think anyone is expecting less than that, oh and a while back there was the blue ray for xbox? still waiting on a update for that. I don’t mean to be a dick I just think you could be a better judge of what is realistic or not.
It will be a ’super’ iTouch. Size will be 8.5 X 5.5 inches (10 inch diameter) X<0.5inches thick. No lid. Weight about 20 ounces. Virtual keyboard, maybe virtual trackpad, support gestures. Possible optional mouse. Solid state hard drive, probably 64 gigs. Bluetooth and wifi. Wireless connection for data. Possible telephone. Five megapixel camera. Great for games, reading books, surfing the net, e-mail, etc. Will support only basic word processing and spreadsheet, possibly iWorks and iLife, but not MS office. Six hour battery life or more. Will support all apps from the app store. Price $600 to $800.
Can i assume the drawing function on this will be atleast equal to that on the Wacom tablets?
The info I’ve heard from my insiders at Apple have stated that the gestures will be akin to a Minority Report like interface. No word on price point.
Next Apple moves will be Books and Games…
