another_mba_battery_320The direction that Apple has taken with the iPhone, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro has irritated some folks and rightfully so. Why would anyone be opposed to a removable battery?

I can’t attest to QuickerTek products, but they’ve announced a new external battery charger that promises eight to twelve extra hours of battery life giving your MBA up to 18 hours of battery life. That sounds fine and dandy, but that extra juice comes at a premium.

The external battery/charger costs $350, but you’re also going to need a modified 45W MagSafe charger that costs an extra $100. Or you can send in your existing MagSafe and have it modified for $25.

The Li-ion polymer battery weighs 1.2 lb and is good for 1000 charging cycles.

  • Who needs are removable battery when your laptop can do 25+ hours.

  • First, the MBA can’t do 25+ hours. Second, I’m always on a plane so this works great for keeping my MBA powered while I finish my work or watch movies.

  • On Amazon, 3GJUICE has the same product a little cheaper, got it in 48 hrs. Love it, since I do a lot of preparing of presentations on the road.

  • I think what Keith was trying to say Jill, is that with the quickertek battery pack the MBA can do 25+ hours.

  • Why blow $450 get get more power when you can get an ASUS ultra portable for $388 and has 6-9 hours battery life built right in. Has better performance than MBA too. If you are needing a Mac, the standard white model has better performance, battery life and is half the price of the Air, roughly.
FYI, I just got my MBA and it’s fun but I am very disappointed with it overall. I’m just not going to blow more cash on it and a super drive to make it do what the base model can.

  • Hi,
8unlimitedsolar.com is selling the Quickertek Macbook Air Battery Charger for $308.95, thought I would pass the info on.
