Flash! Bethesda just announced Fallout: New Vegas at a fancy event in London Town. It’s for the usual suspects—the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC—and will be available sometime next year.
Obsidian Entertainment is developing the game. You may remember those guys from Neverwinter Nights 2 and KotOR II. I guess Obsidian is king of the sequels.
And while Fallout: Vegas isn’t a new game in its own right, Bethesda says it’s “simply another Fallout game in that universe.” Somehow the phrase “simply another Fallout game” strikes me as odd. Why make “simply another” of anything? Where’s the creativity in that?
In other Fallout news, I tried playing Fallout 3 again last night, but quickly grew frustrated. “Where the hell am I supposed to go? Where am I? Nuts to this, I’ll just read a book.” And I did.

it’s not lego fallout. & fallout was one of the best games ever, sorry you spent 20 minutes on it and couldn’t figure it out
Look at your map, there should be a nice line pointing to where you need to go. Also, on your compass there should be a marker that tells you if you’re going in the right direction.
Fallout 3 really is a fantastic game, it’d be a shame to miss out on it, especially if you already own it.
Where are you supposed to go and do? Fallout 3 is an RPG, an “open world”. Explore! Discover! Interact!
If you want to be led by the hand. Go watch TV. Or given Obsidian’s track record wait for their game. I’m sure it will be linear as heck.
I think I’m intimidated by too much openness in games. Like you said, I like an invisible hand guiding me around. I won’t totally give up on the game, though. That would be silly.
Never played NWN 2, loved KotR 2 … till the end, which was unfinished. Here’s hoping against all likelyhood they can get it right this time.
As to “simply another of anything” um… yea, I’d like more of the same. There’s things that could be improved upon IMO, namely dialogue options resulting from interactions with NPCs, actions in the game ‘world’ and quest completions (not that there isn’t plenty, I’d just like more) But make the game all new and different? No thanks. If that’s what I want, I’ll look for… go figure, a different game.
yay!
Sweet! I was just reading another comments section for an article about this, apparently Obsidian is run by a bunch of old Black Isle vets. Before realizing that, I was kind of worried. Being an old-school Fallout vet, a move back to the West Coast was somewhat troubling, since that was Black Isle territory. Don’t get me wrong, Fallout 3 was great, but they needed it move it to a different location to make it work. This is really exciting though, perhaps a true continuation of the original Fallout canon.
damn!! it is good news!
