The last time I checked, this site was made for opinion editorial pieces on technology. I'm not sure that it qualifies as 'hate' speech given that he sites specific and valid reasons why he's become disenchanted with Monster Cables as a brand and a company. This might even fall under 'constructive criticism', if Monster Cables would bother to listen to the complaints.

I can only guess that the reason why people are branding you with name-calling and accusations of 'corporate troll' is because the defense you put up, although correct, is deeply unethical behavior for a corporation that customers should be able to trust and rely on for its good products and reputation, however debatable from person to person, instead of feeling concerned and offended by the company's ethics.

To the point that business owners should have done research to prevent such a lawsuit, it's almost impossible to execute a reasonable or even deep amount of due diligence and STILL remain secure from the scattershot of what appears to me to be an ambiguously accusing lawsuit such as the kind that Monster has been reportedly waging against companies that even simply have the very common English word 'monster' in them.

In the end, companies that wish to remain in operation, especially cash-trapped smaller businesses, would have to give in and settle rather than defend themselves in court on the merits of their case. How do you propose a solution to that situation?

I haven't bought any MCs in over 8 years and I steer anyone clear I can of their product. For one, they're not the best -- if you go to any high end A/V shop they'll laugh at your Monster Cable selection, if you have gear that costs more than most domestic model cars then Monster Cable is the cheap crap anyway...

So if you're not running high end A/V stuff and, like Matt says, it's mostly digital anyway (with the exception of analog audio to your speakers) buy local when you can. Here in the greater Twin Cities area of Minnesota we have our own cable shop. I have no affiliation, but I try to spread the word because they make awesome cables and are priced right. They cater to online, but also allow local pickup, so if you haven't already check 'em out -- My Cable Mart ( http://www.mycablemart.com ).

Keep your hard earned $$$ in your pants yo! Bad pun... :)

There are many other articles to read so you can kindly skip this one and read, not listen, to another. If you are a corporate troll, which is a genius coined phrase by the way, then you can go fornicate yourself with an iron stick (to quote Tom Tucker). The products are good but I'm still waiting on a response from an e-mail I sent 3 months ago, assholes.

This "hate speech" has no place at crunchgear.com. It's one thing to voice an opinion but I don't come here to listen to someone harp on a cable maker. Monster has been around 30 years and they reserve the right to sue regardless of what you may think is right or wrong. These "small business" owners should know better. Business requires research and caution. Research your business, use caution to avoid being sued.

Where in the h*ll have you been for the past 5+ years? Has you head been stuck under a rock?!?

Monster has been pulling these stunts for MANY YEARS, and you are NOW just noticing that they are scum? Seriously - I had to check the date on the byline to make sure an article from 2004 hadn't slipped into today's CrunchGear....

Anyways, welcome to the group of pissed off consumers who avoid companies with sub-par ethics and business practices. And I suppose I shouldn't be so harsh because these reminders are a good thing to have occasionally.

But really... you are just now writing about Monster? Let me help you with some other things that have happened "recently":
- The U.S. is fighting two wars, one in Iraq, the other in Afghanistan;
- Apple has come out with a cell phone, and it has been pretty successful;
- Oh, and we elected a new President. President Obama replaced President Bush in January. (That's GW Bush, not GHW Bush).

Actually, Engadget hasn't caught anyone doing anything wrong. The Monster HDMI difference is showing that Monster HDMI is... different... from component cables, even Monster component cables.

I buy the cheapest cables available and love them, but we need to stop attacking a legitimate ad that the company is using.

When I upgraded to a gigantor HD tv, I did a little research into the cables I would need. I arrived at the bottom line that I probably would not need the high-end stuff for the short runs I would be using.

In the end I think I spent like $26 for (3) 10 ft hdmi cables (supermediastore.com). I felt that if it turned out my picture was crap, I could buy the better cable and I wouldn't be out much money.

Didn't need to. Still happy with my cheap-o cables. They actually were very good quality, as far as I could tell.

As soon as I heard about this kind of petty lawsuit, I decided to stop supporting this company. I will not ever support companies that pound on the little guy. I wish Pixar or Monster.com would sue Monster Cable and give them a taste of their own medicine.

Just my 2 cents in a world where pennies are worthless.
