I can only guess that the reason why people are branding you with name-calling and accusations of ‘corporate troll’ is because the defense you put up, although correct, is deeply unethical behavior for a corporation that customers should be able to trust and rely on for its good products and reputation, however debatable from person to person, instead of feeling concerned and offended by the company’s ethics.

To the point that business owners should have done research to prevent such a lawsuit, it’s almost impossible to execute a reasonable or even deep amount of due diligence and STILL remain secure from the scattershot of what appears to me to be an ambiguously accusing lawsuit such as the kind that Monster has been reportedly waging against companies that even simply have the very common English word ‘monster’ in them.

In the end, companies that wish to remain in operation, especially cash-trapped smaller businesses, would have to give in and settle rather than defend themselves in court on the merits of their case. How do you propose a solution to that situation?

So if you’re not running high end A/V stuff and, like Matt says, it’s mostly digital anyway (with the exception of analog audio to your speakers) buy local when you can. Monster has been pulling these stunts for MANY YEARS, and you are NOW just noticing that they are scum? Seriously – I had to check the date on the byline to make sure an article from 2004 hadn’t slipped into today’s CrunchGear….

Anyways, welcome to the group of pissed off consumers who avoid companies with sub-par ethics and business practices. And I suppose I shouldn’t be so harsh because these reminders are a good thing to have occasionally.

But really… you are just now writing about Monster? Let me help you with some other things that have happened “recently”:
– The U.S. is fighting two wars, one in Iraq, the other in Afghanistan;
– Apple has come out with a cell phone, and it has been pretty successful;
– Oh, and we elected a new President. President Obama replaced President Bush in January. (That’s GW Bush, not GHW Bush).

I buy the cheapest cables available and love them, but we need to stop attacking a legitimate ad that the company is using.

In the end I think I spent like $26 for (3) 10 ft hdmi cables (supermediastore.com). I felt that if it turned out my picture was crap, I could buy the better cable and I wouldn’t be out much money.

Didn’t need to. Still happy with my cheap-o cables. They actually were very good quality, as far as I could tell.

Just my 2 cents in a world where pennies are worthless.
