This folding bike is not for the faint of crotch

I’m not a big fan of the folding bikes because they can never fold small enough or go fast enough for my taste. But I totally see where they could be useful, and some of the engineering is pretty cool. Unfortunately, this cool one has a bit of a design flaw in that stopping it is like getting kicked in the berries.

It’s got a lot going for it, including a kevlar belt instead of a chain, an easy folding design, and it doesn’t look too ridiculous. But did they not realize when they were making it that you’re going to slide off the seat and right into a pole whenever you try to stop? That was the central issue in BBG’s review of the thing, and I think it’s pretty much convinced me that I should wait until the next generation.

The ad is pretty great, though. Wa!!

  • I remember two years ago when I was working in China and my boss brought one of those things into the office. Everyone was having a go riding it around the halls except me. Let’s just say I was a bit skeptical about the structural integrity of a folding bike. Eventually my boss persuaded me to get on. I made it about 15 feet down the hallway before the entire thing collapsed on me. Turns out it had a max capacity of like 160 lbs…I’ll never ride one of those things again.

  • I have had one of these for a few years. I travel a lot and take it with me everywhere. No problems at all in the crotch – maybe you lack “eh-hum” sufficient bulk in that particular area…

  • This video clip should be submitted to the picture is unrelated.com.

Most of the video was filmed in China, the commentary is in Japanese, and the whole editing and music reminds me of the karaokes, which was all the rage back in the 1990’s.

  • I tried out the Strida a while back. Didn’t care for it at all.

Finding the right folding bike is tricky. My wife fell in love with the first folding bike she tried. I, on the other hand, spent a year looking before I found one I liked. Even then I had to have it custom built to fit me properly.

  • I have had this bike for years and I have had no pain. I think you are a bit too concerned.

  • the seat isn’t adjustable hard for tall person to fit in.
