This has been a very exciting year for things-that-could-kill-us. First it was the economy that could kill us all; then it was those Somali pirates who posed a threat to our very way of life; and now we all should fear swine flu. Why should we fear la grippe porcine? Well, it seems to be spreading around the world pretty swiftly, and it’s doing a pretty thorough job of wreaking havoc in Mexico. So, here’s a map!

This Google Map shows confirmed and suspected cases of the virus, H1N1 Swine Flu, as well as deaths caused by the virus.

As always, Twitter is fairly interesting, watching people freak out in real time.

And, if you’d like hype-free news about Swine Flu, may I suggest Science’s blog? Science’s coverage is less alarmist than the likes of AP, Reuters, etc.

  • Regarding people freaking out on Twitter, you guys should’ve seen it when Gmail went down. Hilarious!

  • good let them spics die at least their not border jumping anymore right now!!!!!!!!!! i’m so tired of them bastards coming here and taking our “THE AMERICAN” jobs and government for a ride, this should have happened to them long ago, hell bring back to them the black flag
    yes i meant this
    Satansoutcast

  • Check the name… He’s such a loser even satan has out cast him.

  • There has been at least one confirmed case in Iowa according to multiple news and health outlets, yet it’s not marked on this map. I’d find this more useful if it agreed with reported cases.

  • Your freaking racists.
    we aren’t taking “american” jobs,
we have them because we actually try to work our butts off to get somewhere in life.

And you wanna know why we cross the border ?
we do it so we can get to the u.s. because there are so many oppurtunities that we don’t have in mexico. this is suppposed to be a “free” country, its supposed to be free to EVERYONE. so much for being free.

    • It is a free country, but even free countries have laws. One of the laws is that there is a process for immigrating to this country. Follow the process and don’t skip in line.

I’m all for immigration but lawbreakers shouldn’t be rewarded while those following the rules suffer. You want in? Then apply. You think the immigration rules are too strict then lobby your congressman. Don’t make your own rules and then expect someone to applaud you.

      • “You want in? Then apply. You think the immigration rules are too strict then lobby your congressman. Don’t make your own rules and then expect someone to applaud you.”

How can someone who’s not a citizen lobby their congressman?

Pretty sure I know what you mean, but you may want to double check what you write.

  • You all “Americans” (let me guess… you’re not natives are you?) complaining about illegal immigration would not even come close to considering taking the crappy jobs illegal aliens are subjected to…

If you actually think the problem is as simple as: “stop them from coming in and we’ll have better jobs”… You’re missing the big picture… and a typical uneducated angry “patriot” who’s right where the people filling their pockets with the money they make off of those immigrant want you to be. In short: a dumbass who deserves what he’s got.

    • Actually, I am a native and I am educated (though I apologize for the earlier phrasing that left some ambiguity). But what difference would it make? Are you implying that naturalized citizens are somehow less valuable or authentic than native citizens? That’s hardly the case. People who embark upon the grueling bureaucratic endeavor to become a citizen usually LOVE this country. They are also more knowledgeable about its history than most native citizens. So, honestly, I would be proud to call myself a naturalized citizen though I am not.

Obviously they’re not *SUBJECTED* to anything because they stay here despite the hardships. They take the work that they’re qualified for considering their illegal status. If they came here legally, then they might be able to get better jobs since they wouldn’t be attempting to fly under the radar.

It’s not about the jobs for me. It’s about jumping in line and breaking the law. Then these criminals (yes criminals because they broke the immigration laws) are allowed to do whatever they like. Get caught speeding as an illegal, no worries, because the police officer will let you go. He knows you’ll simply give a false name and not pay the fine. And since there’s no chance in hell he can get you deported, he’ll just verbally berate you then drive away. Get arrested for something more serious as an illegal, like molesting a 6 year old boy? Just get freed on bail and flee the area. No one will find you. Unfortunately for me, I am a native citizen and have to follow the rules that illegals either bypass or ignore.

  • These days there’s more articles about it in the news
than people who have actually contracted swine flu
more people gonna die driving in their cars
but that don’t make news like new flus or SARS

35,000 deaths occur every flu season
we weren’t concerned last year, what’s the reason?
i’m not saying that you shouldn’t be worried
but worry on the news gets bigger in a hurry

  • I’m starting a collection for a one way ticket to Mexico for satansoutcast –specifically to the mid-central region with all the nice pins. Oh dam, scratch that–it would be too cruel to the citizens there. We can use the money for brain surgery then. Oh dam, scratch that–it has apparently already been removed.

  • satansoutcast is a fag that just for being a little queer should get the swine flu whatta little fucker

  • IMMIGRATION?

helll fukin yea i got something to say bout that!

to start off NOOOO i am not one of thoes people that blames immigration issues on racism. Racism is a different subject and in some cases might have to do with immigrants in this country but im not trying to say that americans want mexicans (or any other immigrants) out of this country because they are racist. and im DEFFINANTLY NOT one of thoes people that beleives all americans should die and that mexicans should run everything.

first of all, i have to say this to the people who have the “THEY ALL COME HERE ILLEGALLY WITHOUT PAYING TAXES AND THEN COMPLAIN ABOUT OUR COUNTRY” well wtf, when your here busting your ass to get by and everyone around you gives you shit, discriminates, and complain about your accent… your gonna get tired of it sooner or later. immigrants dont ask to be treated like VIPs or something when they get here but i think they desreve the respect any one else in this counrty gets [LEGAL OR NOT]. and plus most of this “complaining” people think immigrants do is just them fighting for what they beleive in some way or another and thats something we all have the right to do in this country RIGHTTTT ??? & if your honestly dont have a better argument than the fact that you think immigrants complain too much about the counrty then really you should go find some facts or shut the fuck up :]

& well supposedly america is the land of the free where ALL are welcome…. not so much anymore. people are literally DYEING to come into this country. does anybody honestly think that anyone would risk their lives to come here just to join a gang and lay around without a job all day ??? cuz that not the case at all. and im FUCKING SICKKKKKK of hearing ignorant ass people say “if your country’s such a great place, why dont you just stay there?” SIMPLE, DUMBASS: other countries dont offer the same opportunities as this one does! like i said, im SO pround to be MEXICAN but ill admit, if i lived there i wouldnt be getting as far i as i am here. are you one of thoes people that is complains about people with heavy accents at micky d’s or sayin that immigrants are taking jobs away from americans ??? SHUT THE FUCKKKK UP AND GET THE FUCKKK OVER ITTTT! migrant workers BUST THEIR ASSES working for americans everyday. they work for people that take their presence here in the U.S. for granted. this countires economy NEEEDS immigrants. basically this country would not be nealry as great as it is without all of these immigrants from other counties. are you one of thoes people that think they should build a big ass wall at the boreder? ARE YOU STUPID OR WAT ?!??!?! lmfao! NOO you really cant stop immigrants from getting in this counrty. build the fukin great wall of china, people will still hop it, crawl under ir, break through it, WATEVER IT TAKES to get here. immigrants getting here is something that is INEVITABLE. once people can accept that, i think they would realize that instead of STUPIDLY wastin so much time, money and effort in deporting/ keeping immigrants out of this country they should spend time, money and effort on giving these immigrants the opportunities to be contributing people in this country.

SO BASICALLY WAT IM SAYING IS: IMMIGRANTS NEED AMERICA; BUT AMERICA NEEDS IMMIGRANTS JUST AS MUCH.

    • amen !

      i totally agree with you.
&& by the way, the swine flu didn’t start in Mexico.
People are just blaming it on Mexico, it actually started somewhere in Europe.
If people took the time to actually read or hear the news then they would know that and get their facts straight. :)

New york has the most cases so far,
and there has been only one death in the
      u.s.
They say that the u.s. already has more cases then in Mexico ! And the awine flu has gotten to a level 5 ALREADY, i hope this clears up. or gets better.

      Oh and by the way,
there has been one case in Georgia.
It was a 30 year old woman from mississippi that had gone to cancun during spring break. They say that she probably didn’t infect anyone because the people she had contact with were not infected.

      And the first case that
had come up in the u.s. was a 23 moth old baby from texas, but she already passed away.
