PSP 2 rumors have been coming and going for quite a while now, but now it’s being claimed that internal sources are confirming a lot of the features we’ve all been hoping for. The PSP Go! name, in addition to breaking up sentences worldwide, reflects Sony’s recent Go! effort to provide video on demand and other mobile services. So what’s the new PSP got and what didn’t make the cut?
- No dual analog. One analog nub and a D-pad. How they’ll fit that on there is anybody’s guess.
- Sliding design with buttons and controls underneath screen.
- No UMD! Hooray! Downloadable games galore on launch.
- Internal storage, choose from 8GB or 16GB flavors.
- Touchscreen? That Mylo one would do just fine…
- Camera? Would take some of the novelty away from the DSi.
It’s still rumor, but as rumors go this one seems all right. Salvage some pieces of the Mylo and its services, take a bite out of the DSi, and take a shot at the iPhone’s monopoly on touch games? Sounds like a business plan to me. Still, that dual analog would have been really nice.

Agreed. Eliminating UMD would be enough to keep me from picking one up – at least for a while.
Keep the UMD, offer digital downloads, too. That, or go the completely digital route, but offer a digital download replacement for everyones UMD’s that they can now no longer use since you’ve thrown that function out.
Also, add another analog. It can’t be THAT difficult, can it? Real estate certainly isn’t an issue as far as I can see at face value.
Maybe keep the PSP as it is, but make the “slide-out” a slide-out keyboard? That might be pretty interesting, although I’m not sure how useful it could be. (sony could get super unrealistically crazy and offer a texting only plan to go along that keyboard. Hell, I’d pay $30 a month for that, since texting is all I use anyways. lol /dreaming out loud)

For gods sake, please keep the UMD drive. It’s already bad enough that some games are being sold as download serials -only-. I hate having to go to an online store to get my games. I want a box to sit neatly next to all the other game boxes that I bought!

man that scares me, I’ve had my 60GB Launch model since launch. I love that thing to death. I would definitely pay to get it fixed but I would hate for my PS3 to die on me. I have been extremely tempted to open it and upgrade the heatsink paste to arctic silver and clean out the insides but I dont want to do something that if it did die some day sony wouldnt cover it even if I did pay.

Really what is wrong with you people! i have one of the first models comming out in Sweden and its been working like a charm. With electronic devices there will always be bad ones and just be cause you were unlucky to get one it does not mean the company is this or that. I have had many many devices with problems from big names but thats the nature of things so just get it repaired or changed.

In defense of the nix on the second analog nub, if games were designed for dual analog there would be a HUGE uproar from the people who have a PSP and possibly just bought a 3000 series and can no longer play new games because they need the second analog.

i think that they should have a psp were there is no buttons at all but when u turn it on it shows up as if it were real buttons and obviously thay would have to make it toch screen but then we wouldnt have to worry about anything getting stuck in side our buttons and viola!!!! psp4000
A button-less PSP? No way. You need the tactile feel of the buttons to go fast, sensible, mash, squeeze, careful, or timed. With even the best touchscreen of the world, you won’t feel the feedback of a real button just yet. That’s just one example, why the IPhone won’t compete as a gaming device. You need *real* buttons.

I mean, some people don’t have an internet connection, or their internet connection is sooo slow.
And just think about it:
It’s basically a total remake of the other psp’s.
That slide-out thing looks extremely uncomfortable to be playing games. Why can’t they just put the buttons on the front instead of the slide-out thing.
And well, I was kind of hoping that their would be a touch screen, and you could some how disable the touch function.

I like my psp way better than my DS. If Sony did make a touch screen 4 the psp it wuld top the DS way mor since that is the one & only thing that makes the DS so popular.
