Creative Japan today announced the ZEN MX [JP], a portable media player that will be available in Nippon starting at the beginning of next month. The company plans to offer an 8GB (ZN-ZMX8G-BK) and 16GB (ZN-ZMX16G-BK) model, both featuring a 2.5-inch LCD screen with 320×240 resolution.
The player supports audio files in MP3 and WMA, video in CMV/WMV/DivX and pictures in JPEG format. Weighing just 66g, it’s sized at 83.2×55x11.9mm and comes with SD/SDHC and USB interfaces.
Creative plans to sell the 8GB version for $100 in Japan, while the 16GB model will cost $140. The player is compatible to Windows XP and Vista only.

WOW I WANT TO BUY THIS

why is this expensive? An 8 gb ipod nano is already $149, you save like $49 instantly…
What is this, Creative? There is nothing new about this player compared to the one I have that looks EXACTLY like it. All you did was take your old players, slap on “MX” and strip it down to the bare essentials… Gee wiz! Cool! /s
The price isn’t too bad though. I paid like $59.99 for my 2GB model about six months ago. Quadruple the capacity and only about 50% increase in price. Not bad, really.
Lets hope they’re doing this to get rid of their current stockpile of these players, because that should mean that they’re paving way for a new device launch.
My 8GB Creative Zen also looks exactly like this, but I don’t believe it has the CMV (CorelDRAW 4.0 Movie Animation) playback feature–maybe that’s why it’s going to be hot in Japan?
It may be comnpatible with XP and Vista but is that when running in either English or non-Japanese language? I’ve just been caught out with a sony PMP which will only run on an Japanese OS and the dl for other languages is not compatible with the unit :(
The UI and physical design on this one drives me mad but if you want good sound it’s either sony, creative or cowon and I don’t need anything but a DAP really.
