Japan has a thing for face masks. In the summer, people wear them because of those nasty allergies. In the winter, it’s an anti-flu measure (although most Japanese people wear them in order not to infect others. Yes, they are that nice.
In the swine flu era, face masks gain popularity in the west, too. And renowned Japanese artist Yorika Yoshida has designed a few extra-odd face masks that are poised to freak everyone out who sees people wearing them.

Yoshida-san designed a total of eight different masks (which you can check out on the top right of this page here). I like the octopus beard model the best since it’s the weirdest of them all.

but what kind of masks are they? The soft, surgical kind don’t filter the air, they only block your spit/snot from getting on others.
The hard masks that are usually white filter out 95% of gunk.
