The news over Amazon’s upcoming Kindle announcement broke late last night and this morning a gaggle of reporters and journalist types, including myself, received invites via e-mail to confirm the news. On May 6, Amazon will hold its press conference at Pace University in New York City, which happens to be the site of the NYT HQ back in the 19th century (factoid from Kaffka).

It should be interesting to see what kind of partnership deal they do with the NY Times. If don’t think the NY Times should give anything away so hopefully this is the first step to a subscription model.
Hmmm… a huge change in the offing. really cool…!

Perhaps they are announcing a new, larger kindle that will accommodate texbooks…
remember this fiasco… http://qzip.in/nY
Maybe with the announcement of the larger Kindle will come the announcement of a much cheaper regular-sized Kindle. Man, I love that thing, but I sure don’t want to cough up that much money when I can read the same books on my iPhone.
With this taking three of your last 7 posts I’m glad that something factual came of it or you guys would have looked like real tools
I think the bigger e-reader / netbooks are the next big thing for subscription based media/publishing house.

Amazon has found the business model, but
e-readers still need to have better and cheaper hardware for them to really take off in the mainstream. That will happen when Plastic Logic releases its e-reader later this year. It’s made of plastic, not glass, so it can’t break, it’s lighter and easier to read with black on white print. If you combine what Plastic Logic has with Amazon, and it’s priced right, you could have a product as big as the iphone in my opinion.
Hi Peter!
Any chance I could go in your place and give you the full report to relay to your readers? I’m in NYC this week and have some free time on Wednesday. Long shot, I know, but worth a try!
:)

it’s the site of the new york tribune, and not the new york times.
