Amazon has found the business model, but
e-readers still need to have better and cheaper hardware for them to really take off in the mainstream. That will happen when Plastic Logic releases its e-reader later this year. It’s made of plastic, not glass, so it can’t break, it’s lighter and easier to read with black on white print. If you combine what Plastic Logic has with Amazon, and it’s priced right, you could have a product as big as the iphone in my opinion.

Maybe with the announcement of the larger Kindle will come the announcement of a much cheaper regular-sized Kindle. Man, I love that thing, but I sure don’t want to cough up that much money when I can read the same books on my iPhone.

It should be interesting to see what kind of partnership deal they do with the NY Times. If don’t think the NY Times should give anything away so hopefully this is the first step to a subscription model.
