Whew. So all the DX nonsense is over. How about a little something to nosh? I have a Nyko ChargeStation for Wii in my office just waiting for a lucky commenter. I’ll pick one winner at random tomorrow at noon ET.
UPDATE- Congrats to Goodo! Thanks for playing!
To win, post a comment describing which book would be great as a video game and why. Include your real email in the form. My choices are Catcher In the Rye and Choke.

Go! Dog Go! by Dr. Seuss.
It’s a fun kids book, that would make an excellent, Mario Kart-type racer.
Who doesn’t like a good go-cart game?
that’s not Dr Seuss! PD Eastman. http://www.amazon.com/Go-Dog-Beginner-Books/dp/0394800206
fail!
Damn it. You got me Biggs.
It was always in the pile of Seuss books, when I was a kid. I guess I just never thought anything of it.
My apologies to PD Eastman and his family. I hope my inaccurate comment doesn’t have any affect on the future sales of Go! Dog Go!
cirque du freak
it would be cool to go around killing dogs, animals, an other vampires and going through the trials of death.
I just got a Wii for my wife for Mother’s day. She could really use this to charge her wii remotes.
Please add my name to the hat.
Thanks,
Larry C
I forgot to add my book…..
1984
Would be a great video game?
Big Brother anyone?
Larry C
This is really a long shot. I will try anyways.
My favorite would be a novel — like The remains of the day (http://books.google.com/books?id=mVzI9sCsCRkC&source=gbs_summary_s&cad=0).
Would it sell like GTA 4? Of course not. Game play should be something like Fable 2, but not exactly.
Let the flaming begin. *cringe
did he pick already? am i too late?
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time
1. Involves solving a mystery
2. Peril and danger – but in a familiar world
3. Possibility of a really cool feature where you couldn’t tell whether you were dealing with real situation or your distorted perception of it
4. Another feature where you develop coping strategies which look irrational – but actually make sense in the circumstances
5. 3 & 4 but made multi-player
6. it could have a dog in it.
Atlas Shrugged. It’ll have a “co-operative multiplayer” mode, but whenever anyone chooses it, they get a “game over” message.
A great book based video game would be Atlas Shrugs by Ayn Rand. Why? b/c nothing say action packed video game fun more than stopping the collapse of society by thwarting big government intervention.
I think it would be ideal to play either the role of Dagny Taggart or John Galt. There could even be cooperative play for those couples who like to “fight the power” together.
I would title it Atlas Pooped the Big One and subtitle it, “Stopping the motor of the world”
or, yeah.. what adam said..
alternatively, you could do Lolita… by Nabokov… who care’s what’s in it.. just have a lot of Anime styles graphics. I guarantee you won’t keep ‘em on the shelves in Japan.
The Bible
Haven’t they tried that one before?
For Joe and Nate, enjoy:
http://www.nintendo8.com/game/228/bible_adventures/
I’d love to see the ideas and ‘universe’ from “American Gods” in a video game… Could make for a good Adventure game..
I vote on Catch-22, the amount you jump around in time would make you feel like you are on Lost or something… plus there is a whole war going on and people dieing, which doesn’t hurt the “plot” of the game
SIDEWAY STORIES FROM WAYSIDE SCHOOL.
This would be an excellent game it would be full of silly mini games kind of like mario party or Fuzion Frenzy.
I would love to play a game based on The Maltese Falcon – you would go around as Sam Spade looking for the damn statue and getting double crossed at every turn. A GTA sandbox type of game would be great where you can really explore all the places in the book and from the film.
Dragon Lance. Because it’s epic like LOTR.
Mossflower of the Redwall series; puzzles, epic battles and boss characters ready to go.
If we’re simply going by title (and not content), Slaughterhouse 5 would have to at least get a look.
The Lost Year’s of Merlin…comeon Wii!!
Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson would make an awesome video game. Ingest metals to allow you to influence metal around you! Awesome game mechanic as exciting as God of War. Good story line too! This is by the same author that is completing the Wheel of Time series by the late Robert Jordan.
If you don’t like that, I also suggest Goodnight, Moon.
The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein, It would be excellent to see how long the tree could last for with greedy boys running all over, and educational, no doubt.
Ringworld by Larry Niven. It’s a huge artificial world shaped like a ring. It has a defense mechanism at the center. Oh, wait, that’s already been done. Darn.
How about Footfall by Larry Niven & Jerry Pournelle. Elephant looking alien beings invade earth. Who wouldn’t want to shoot them some man-sized elephants with multiple trunks? :)
Brothers Karamozov by Dostoevsky. You could play from multiple points of view, there’s LOT’s of dialogue for the cinematic scenes, and as a bonus level you get to break rocks as Dmitri in Siberia.
How about the call of the wild – of course, it wouldn’t work, because who’d want to be a dog? and if you change buck to a person, you’d have to call the game survivor.
why wouldn’t you wanna be a dog?
Beethoven for SNES was quite a fun game.
Come on everyone, you need to consider the platform – Wii. What’s really appropriate is something that doesn’t need high powered graphics or a complicated story, appeals to a wide audience, and it requires the motion sensitivity of the Wiimote. Therefore, I vote for Little Rabbit Foo Foo by Michael Rosen. It’s a simple story of a rabbit that gets turned into a goon by the Good Fairy because he keeps using his mallet to bop the heads of animals in the forest.
Liveship Trader’s Trilogy by Robin Hobb, because there are 3 sequels to be made with out the need to add numbers and is really far fetched with dragons, sea monsters, ships, pirates, wars, and magic.
Unfortunately no game developer or publisher could or more likely would invest the time and money to make any game nearly as grand as the books they are meant to represent.
Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson.
Seriously, read the plot summary and tell me it wouldn’t make for a killer action-RPG (maybe build it on top Mass Effect’s cut of the Unreal 3 engine.)
Ender’s Game could make for a sweet video game and could work well for the Wii running you through battle school controlling your fleets.
Do Not Want

Where the Wild Things Are .. I think that would be an interesting exploration/adventure game.
No doubt since the movie is coming out, some horrible video game version will be made/has been made.
Haroun and the Sea of stories.
It’s an epic tale that travels to numerous lands, it has unforgettable characters and i think the tone of the book would really fit well with the wii.
The Invisible Man by Ellison
you can wave the wii mote around all day, accomplish awesome tasks, and someone else will take all the credit…until you start a riot
Remainder by Tom McCarthy – Whats better than being drunk, taking a piss and seeing a crack in the wall, and deciding to use your millions of “hush” money dollars to find out where you came from … and yet you NEVER (or himself) find out his name.
Dont actually throw your wiimote to make the crack to begin the story though … your TV wouldn’t make for a good “play” experience (but then again there could be some nostaligia there).
It’s gotta be Ender’s Game!!! Think of the story line, all the way from training at the “special school” to total galaxy conquest!

Chair Entertainment is working on the official “Ender’s Game” Battle Room game.
Gotta go with James Frey’s infamous “A Million Little Pieces”. I just think it’d be awesome to spend a few hours in a drug induced haze, clean yourself up and then realize it was all a figment of your imagination.
Flatland.
All those console controller tricks (hit ^ while holding A and tapping B and yodeling “How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria” and jumping on your left foot) are waaaay too confusing for me. Let me just go

… and I will be a happy boy.
…interesting…
Comments will not allow (or do some strange things with) greater-than and less-than symbols.
Lets test. the next line will be “less-than”"AAABBB”"greater-than:
Wonder what will be there when I hit enter.
(BTW TechCrunch – I don’t really care what happens, as long as you keep doing the good work you do)
I would say The Stand. First, you could have a level or two about trying to control the mysterious virus everyone gets… then a few levels on how the survivors can get to Mother Abigail. And finally, mission based levels by the good guys as they try to infiltrate the bad guys in Las Vegas, with all out action and adventure as they plan their destruction of Vegas and begin their quest to start humanity over again. Guess you can tell what I have been watching lately, huh?
Lord of the Flies by William Golding. It could be a sim game that is played online. In the beginning of the game you chose which camp to follow.
My vote is for Turn of the Screw.
Hook it up.
Oh-ho-ho! I second the whole “Ender’s Game” battle-school zero-G first-person squad-based tactical-combat! Aren’t they making that? Tell me they’re making that.
The Artemus Fowl Series. A combination puzzle solver and action game. Fly Holly with Wiimote to avoid hazards, move blocks to decode puzzle locks, wiggle Wiimote to pick locks with dwarf beard hair. Flick to toss explosives. Control Butler in gun battles and hand to hand combat, equip mirrored sunglasses to avoid mesmer. Trace sigils to mesmer and shield. Communicate with Foaly for radar and tips. Time LEP Recon shuttle launch to ride the magma burst, and once on surface avoid detection by humans.
Lots of great possibilities!
How about a Wheel of Time MMO, WoW style.
Huge map, dozens of “races”, lots of room for growth as shown in the books… i’d buy it.
I want an American Gods game. Oh yes.
knowing the crazyness and frugality of the average Wii owner (I kid I kid!) I figure my chances are slim, buts heres my entry.
the zft! aha (fringe fans you know what im talkn bout!)
My vote is for “Stephen Colbert: I Am America, And So Can You!” You’d play as Colbert on his journey through life, discovering what being a true American is all about.
I think that would make a hilarious adventure game or series of casual mini-games.
All my life, I’ve always wanted a charge station for me wii…
Wow, a lot of people entered for this. One more final exam and I am done, I can finally play my Nintendo Wii
A bad place by Dean Koontz. I would play that
I think a great book turned game would be Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. Just think about it; a first person player or a sim-city style game? You choose…HHHmmmmm What a novel idea!!!!!!
