It’s a madhouse here at Pace U., but I managed to grab a couple photos. Not my hands, but you can see how big this new DX really is.
South Paws might feel like they’re being left out with only right-hand side controls, but you can flip the Kindle DX upside and it auto-rotates so the controls are on your left (upside down though).
Oh, and Pace U. has been confirmed as the sixth University for the pilot program.
Update: Couple more images after the jump. We’ll have video in little bit as well.
UPDATE – Rotation video in place.
Update 2: Here’s a video demo of the screen rotation feature…

Or you can buy something really useful like a Netbook. Or 2 Netbooks instead of a Kindle DX.
Or, you can buy a device designed for reading.
How many motorcycles can you buy for a car?
Different devices for completely different scenarios.
Wow that is pretty, but $489? I can get a netbook for that much money.
Is Jeff Bezos filling in for Steve Jobs?
The product looks great (although too much bigger than the screen) but quite pricey.
I would buy this for $199
I love the kindle. Now if I only *needed* one! The thing is: I don’t, at least not at that price tag.
I’d rather buy a Crunchpad so I can stop carrying around a notebook which is overkill for most of my on-the-go usage.
(Btw: Please, make it pretty!)
unicode fonts built-in?
I wish the price was a little more attractive. I recognize that there is a premium for design, convienence and the always on wireless connection but, that said, if K2 was $299 and Kdx was $399 it would make more sense to me.
I would love to get a K2 for my wife who reads ALOT but at $359 I’ll continue to wait.
Love the Kindles. People whine about the price, but it’s silly. In 1979 I bought an HP-41C calculator to take to college for $350. That’s over $1000 at today’s prices and I would much rather have had the Kindle. I’m not surprised universities are lining up.

Testing
I’m a bit pissed that native PDF support is ONLY going to be in the DX.
Lose the freakin WhisperNet crap, lose the DRM, drop the price by about $300 and you might have something worth buying Amazon.
Peter,
Do you realise that most books for sale at Amazon are not very Southpaw-friendly?
I have been turning those pages with my right hand for all my life… Poor me!
Well at least you thought about us…. ;-)
why not buy 10” netbook and use a pdf /svg reader to read book ?….wasting $ 400 + on limited device
I can’t believe they made a *bigger* Kindle!!
My main objection with the original Kindle (other than the issue of it being fugly) was that it was just too big. Then they go and make a bigger one!
I used to love reading books on my Palm, and the best thing about it was that it fitted in my pocket, so I could carry a library of books with me wherever I went.
I gave up in the end though, as the choice of books was so limited.
I was excited about the Kindle (and the Sony eBook thing), until I saw how big they both were. If I need a bag to carry them – may as well put a book in it instead!
issue for those used to books is the flip back and forth ability. I think it will eventualyl be what we are used to but will take getting used to not seeing the entire “analog” book when you flip from say, middle of the book to a part in the front. My learning was geared to where I was in the textbook. This is a change but 3rd graders will see as “normal”.
Like the tech but not the price?
pre-order a Kindle DX at 50% discount… $244.50
What a great idea!
I love my Kindle 2 but am salivating to get the Kindle DX. I read a lot and want to get rid of all the pulp editions of my reading material. I only have so much room for bookshelves and have no need to shelf paperbacks. I also, like to carry my entire book library with me. I wish I could exchange my pulp version for e-versions. Now that would be a great idea but I’m sure there’s some kind of legal issue with that. Also glad I will be able to read the newspaper in it’s native format. Hope the book pages are same a paper edition too.
So, I will probably sell my Kindle 2 and get the DX. I’m a sucker for technology and want to keep saving trees.
I’ve bought a Kindle DX at Revolution Store few weeks ago and I’m really impressed with it. It’s wonderful. I love it!
