It launched in December, was discontinued in March, and the remainder was sold-out by June. And HP has not launched anything since then. Did the Firebird just fail? I know they had a lot of quality problems, especially with the power supply, but it is still surprising that it failed so quickly.

HP does not offer extended care pack for the Firebirds. Mine came with bad mobo and was returned. they are quiet and the external Power supply makes sense. The dooling system works well. Tje mouse was usless, very jumpy but the keyboard was fine. One has to wonder when a maker does not support a product

it opens further than in the picture :)
it's spring-loaded at 90 degrees so it starts closing on its own.

Wow, HP actually makes a nice computer that isn't insanely overpriced for once. On a side note, you say "It loses out on 120GB of hard drive space due to dual 250GB drives instead of 320GB, and its processor and L2 cache are reduced: the 803 has a Q7550/2.83GHz/12MB L2 and the 802 has a Q9400/2.66GHz/6MB L2." when it should be the Q9550/2.83/12MB L2 instead of Q7550.
