Last week, Acer let the cat out of the bag by revealing the expected launch date for Windows 7. There was no real reason to doubt it, but now we’re pretty much sure it’ll be October 23rd or thereabouts. A Microsoft press release has made it all very clear:
Microsoft Corp. announced that the company is anticipating that the next version of its client operating system, Windows 7, will be available to customers in time for the holiday shopping season.
Okay, so it’s not exactly a confirmation of October 23rd, but the “holiday shopping season” really includes November (at least, for responsible gift buyers like you and me), so it’s a safe bet.

Hopefully it’s not a glorified version of Vista and I can finally upgrade from XP.
You can upgrade from any operating system. All you have to do is format your windows partition (you do have a windows partition, right?), and then install Win7.
Easy.
Gryphyn,
I think the point was to avoid or skip Vista and go directly from XP to 7. No one likes Vista! But thanks to you, we all now know we can upgrade from other versions of windows. Super!
I have used windows from the beginning, during the dos days. I like progress and would like to know what is the true benefit of moving from the stability of xp to windows 7, if some one who is really on the ball can answer my question i would apprecialt it and thanks in advance!
Fellow coworker has been using beta for many months. He loves Windows 7…says its FASTER and cycles on and off quickly, hasn’t had any errors or problems. He is upgrading his home pc as soon as product is released. I will go from XP to Win7 as well, based upon his experience.
