Today in Baltimore, I think, AirTran announced that it would become the first fleet in the US to have Wi-Fi on every flight. Equipped with Aircell’s Gogo service, AirTran will outfit all 136 Boeing 737 and 717s by mid-summer. No word on pricing, but we expect them to fall in line with what Virgin America and American Air charge. That is all.

They talked about pricing on the radio in Atlanta this morning. It’s a tiered pricing plan starting at $7.95 and going up to $12.95.
It sounded like it depends on if it’s a mobile device and the length of the flight.
I don’t get it. Airlines get all figgidy about having electronics or cell phones because it interferes with the plane’s electronics (or something like that). Now, they are willing to throw in wifi? Is this safe? Because, you know, we need safety to be first. I don’t think we want to update our Facebook status or Twitter with, “we are going down, something about some interruption with the plane’s electronic system — love you mom, oh and you too Pebbles (dog)”
