I worked for a certain blue and yellow retailer at their tech bench then as an "agent" and some older models of HP were bad but not all and the return rate on HP was really low in the later years. Gateway had case cracking problems and we would get Toshibas all the time. I would be confident buying this one as HP has vastly improved their product quality as well as customer service.

Looks like a great notebook, nice small and portable and not an underpowered nightmare like a netbook. Now only if it were a convertible tablet I would love it.

@Technology Slice: do you know the graphics chip on your HP? Because quite a number of HP sets came with Nvidia 6000 and 8000-series, primarily the 6150 is usually found to be the culprit behind dead mobos. The 6150 is most notorious for sudden deaths. While 8000 series such as 8400 and 8600 had made a splash here:

No brand has been spared from the bad karma that stems from using these Nvidias. Good thing the DV2 is using ATI, but we'll see.

The dv2 looks like an interesting machine: beefier than a netbook and lighter than a laptop. I think however that to fully use it's capabilities you need to have it loaded with Windows XP or Ubuntu, as Vista is clearly too heavy for that kind of machine.

Also at $750 it may be a better option to buy a cheap 15 inch notebook for $500 AND one of the future SOC based ultra light netbooks such as the Norhtec Edubook: http://www.tech-no-media.com/2009/05/norhtec-edubook-finally-innovative.html

I've been looking forward to this review for a while, and I'm glad to see there are much more positives than negatives. I'll be picking one of these up as soon as HP initiates some kind of free Windows 7 upgrade program.

Hi Devin, I have exactly the same dilemma getting a netbook vs. bringing my MacBook Pro. The small screened netbooks is also a problem for me, which this HP seemed to have solved pretty well.

The Price there is reasonable, I wonder how much and when it's going to be launched here in Asia?

HP had loads of issues with their laptops a couple of years ago - especially the DV6000 and DV9000 series, they were basically crap - but since the launch of their new line (DV2/3/4/5/6/7) those problems have all been sorted. I should know, I work in computer retail, and the return rate on HPs has dropped a LOT since the introduction of the new line.
