Acer’s 11.6-inch netbook has been officially announced and released in the US. I can’t find a place to actually buy it yet, but it’s “available” according to a company press release, so look for them to pop up like netbook-shaped Whack-a-Moles at retailers everywhere.
Along with the 11.6-inch AO751h-1192 (yes, that’s the sexy model number), the 10.1-inch AOD250-1042 (mmm, also with a sexy model number) has been announced. The 11.6-inch model has a starting MSRP of $349 with a three-cell battery, $379 with a six-cell, and the 10.1-inch version has an MSRP of $298 with a three-cell battery — no mention of a six-cell version yet.
As previously reported, the 11.6-inch machine has a nice high-resolution screen at 1366×768 (the press release says 1364×768, ROFL!) and an intriguing thin-and-light form factor, but early reviews have dinged the machine for its spongey keyboard and relatively weak 1.33GHz processor.
Here’s a quick look at the specs (the full press release can be found here):

If you find out WHERE to buy one of these beast-of-a-netbooks, would you please update this post?
Thanks!
amazon
Hadn’t read of these models before, went to walmart looking for a laptop for my gf for college and saw one of these. We decided it was the best value and tried to buy it. The managers told us they weren’t allowed to sell it. Anywhere else I can find these?
I just odered one through HSN.com
See: http://electronics.hsn.com/acer-aspire-one-11-6-choice-of-color-lcd-250gb-hdd-2gb-ram-laptop-w-webcam_m-10044108_xp.aspx
It has a 250GB hard drive and 2GB DDR2 SDRAM of memory. It sold for $499, broken down into 5 monthly payments of $99 plus tax and about $11 dollars shipping -no interest, they simply bill your credit/debit card once a month, but send it right away. It comes in red, blue, white, and black. They also send a memory stick containing a ton of free software that you can either load or not. Also, there is one year of 7-days-a-week tech support included for free.
I’ll check the various stores out tomorrow morning. It looks like these may have been shipped to certain retailers but aren’t allowed to be sold yet for some reason.
Perhaps all the stores are getting these today but in the interest of fairness due to variable shipping times — some stores getting them this morning, some this afternoon, etc. — none of them are allowed to sell it until tomorrow.
Something interesting to note: all Acer netbooks and laptops have disappeared from BestBuy.com (as of today, 5/18), which may be a sign that something’s about to happen.
Thanks Doug. That makes sense, really.
I was just a little concerned when Acer’s website doesn’t even mention these new toys. :)
I’ll keep looking around. I can’t wait to go feel one out…really excited about these.
Thanks for all of your hilarious/awesome product reviews! You rock man.
i also tried to buy one at Walmart and was told that the UPC is the same as another recalled Acer laptop. I had several asst managers invovled and they couldn’t figure out how to sell it to me. if anyone figures out how to buy one, please post the info. BTW, the one I had in my hands came with 2GB of RAM, 250 GB harddrive and loaded with Vista for $398!
do you know if the model you found had the 3g
Now, The successful mergers of Gateway and Packard Bell complete the company’s global footprint by strengthening its presence in the U.S. and enhancing its strong position in Europe.
Strange… Acer’s website now shows the “ultra thin” 10.1″ netbook, but not the 11.6″…hmm.
Again, let me know what you find out :-)
Here is a link to the 10.1″ flavor on Amazon.com…but it doesn’t have 2gigs of ram like what Brian saw at Walmart.
I feel like I’m chasing after a ghost, haha!

Oh nice, that must have just gone up recently. I checked Amazon at around 9:30 Eastern this morning and this model wasn’t there. Hopefully the 11.6-incher isn’t far behind.
BTW, my Walmart also had the D250 for $298.00 but it only had the 3 cell battery. I actually bought one, but then returned it with the intention of buying the 11.6″ one, which so far I still can’t seem to buy…
Just got off the phone with my walmart and was told they got an email to send thier 3 units back as they are being recalled. Are they confusing this model with another because it has wrong upc?
I just saw the 11.6 inch Aspire One at a local Super Walmart selling for $389. I hope this helps people that are looking for one. God Bless :)
Yeah, I went to Walmart last night. They had a note up on the 11.6″ models stating that they were unable to sell them due to “a recall from home office”…whatever that means?
Thanks for the heads-up though!
Hey everyone, I just got this all figured out with Acer. Apparently the marketing stickers on some of the boxes contained incorrect information, so the units had to be pulled. They’ll be back in stores next week, though, apparently.
Full details here: http://www.crunchgear.com/2009/05/20/is-acers-116-inch-netbook-being-recalled/
Thanks for your help with this.
I drove around to about 7 Walmarts in North Jersey today. Some said it was a recall but could not say why. One said that it was a recall but she did not know what for. One tried to ring it up but the register said do not sell. I read on the following link that Asus is supposed to release there 11.6″ by the end of this month. See link.

Alright, to join in on this session . Saw two at walmart – same as everyone else they couldn’t sell it to me due to a recall. She didn’t know what the recall was about. The box showed it had 2GB RAM and Windows Vista which according to the article here it only has 1GB and windows XP. If Acer is saying there were some incorrect marketing stickers on the box that is probably what they are talking about. I thought it was a great price for being a netbook with 2gb of ram and windows vista….
To add on to previous comment, it comes in four collors. White, Blue, Black, and Red
colors*
Just talked with J&R.com and they will have them in next week with 2g ram and 250 hard drive for $399 if ordered before 6/8.
also has free shipping and comes in 4 colors. from J&R.com
This notebooks/netbooks were sold last night on HSN. They had 10,000 of them in blue, red, and black. They were selling them for $499.99, with a flex pay of 5 payments of $99.99.
This was the deal of the day (6-1-09)
THEY SOLD OUT BY 12 MIDNIGHT
Same disappointment as other wal-mart goers. Didn’t get a “recall” notice or anything, just a moronic associate that couldn’t tell me anything. This was before I found out about the recall, I asked him what the processor speed was and he looked at it like a stoner staring at those tie-dyed posters, and finally said “no, we don’t even have any in stock”. On a side note, someone mentioned before about some stores pulling ALL of their Acer stuff. What gives? Even this wal-mart that I shop at pulled all of their 14″+ acer’s, but still had the ORIGINAL 8.9 inch acer, and this new dream-machine. if I find out they’re gonna sell the N270 or N280 version (like some reviews say), I’ll be willing to camp out until they do go on sale. Unfortunately, since no one knows what’s going on with them, there’s no sense in trying to buy one right now. Also, us.acer.com DOES have the 11.6 model listed now, with about 15 different configurations.
I bought one at my local Walmart on June 2nd.
Boy was I suprised I made it out of the store with one!
It was 398.00. The stores in my area only have the AO751h-1276, which is the 3-cell battery, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD, Blue version.
I believe the labeling problem was that the orginal boxes said they had 6-cell batteries.
What the crap?? they drop the processor AND battery? and jump the price?? perfection would have been the 6-cell and n270… Anyway, my local wal-mart has only the white ones. I didn’t think netbooks were big in my part of town, but when I asked about the processor, the store-worker said that a ton of people had come in asking what processor it used. But for $400, I would rather take the new EeePC 1000HE..
Thanks for all the info everyone! I just Pre-Ordered mine from J&R.
> I believe the labeling problem was that the orginal boxes said they had 6-cell batteries.
That makes since. The 6-cell version costs $50 more than the 3-cell.
I have also pre-ordered from J&R. I have no idea when they will have stock on these things. I hope it doesn’t take forever! Any info???
I managed to pre-order from Amazon for the very brief period they had the things listed for pre-order. But that was a Vista machine, and I canceled and pre-ordered the XP version form J&R.
I see the ao751h-1196 showing as available in late June on portableone.com. Anyone heard anything?
Just bought mine yesterday at Costco. $349 w/ 1GB ram, 160GB hard drive, 3-cell battery, and Black only.
Costco stores have them for sale!!! cheap and they have a free 2 year extended warranty!
The Acer 11.6 is one of the very few netbooks (under 3 lbs. in weight) with a WXGA display and it is available with XP Home loaded instead of Vista. With Vista you immediately lose 50% of the performance of the computer and the only benefit would be in running applications with a computer with more than 3GB of RAM which does not apply to any of the netbook and is true for only a couple high end laptop computers. These are sold at Tigerdirect.com and other reputable internet resellers so no need to buy from Wal-Mart (and pay sales tax). One limitation of the Acer is lack of support for 802.11n wireless. I have a Lenovo with this capability and it moves data around at twice the speed of my other laptops and browsing speed is also much better in most locations.
Thank you for information, AO751h is good spec.
Purchased an Acer 11.6 A0751h-1351 (white model) for 298.99 from MWave.com in October – had some trouble with the harddrive and sent it to Acer for replacement. Just got it back about two weeks ago and I love it. With Vista, it runs a bit slower, but I use it mainly for surfing web, FB and Yahoo. It does what I need it to do, and the price was right!!!!!
