Auction the GPS system off to industry (i.e. Google...) - let them perfect location based advertising & services. Running the global GPS network Google (or whomever) might actually perfect hyper-local advertising and targeted services

"The government should have a GPS tax on all GPS devices to maintain the system or update it."

What is it with Americans these days - everyone seems to WANT to pay more taxes. This is stupid. We're taxed already to support the GPS system.

The fact that some satellites failed is a statistical anomaly. GPS is primarily a military system, civilian dual-use is just a by-product, albeit a very important one.

There is nobody to blame here and NO NEED FOR MORE TAXES!

GPS is cool, but not something most civilians really need. I am sure the government will find a way to waste more tax payer money though.
