Intel will keep the Atom crippled and hog tie manufacturer's into poor screen resolution etc. to prevent erosion of their greedy over-priced laptop parts. Why isn't someone else waking up to fill this void - where are you Via, NVidia, and especially AMD. Teach Intel a lesson!

I have to say I agree with BrotherDust. Fact is, Intel is playing hardball with Nvidia by pulling the whole "volume discount" schtick and charging more to OEMs who want to pair an Atom with Ion. I'd buy a netbook right now except for the often crappy video playback, which is a direct result of Intel's crappy graphics hardware/drivers.

Plus, Intel will NOT make Pine Trail that much faster, because they're about to release all the new CULV procs as part of their "4-tier" laptop processor scheme. If Atom becomes "fast enough", netbooks will eat into sales of slightly higher-end machines.

There is one hope that I can see: the rumored Acer Aspire One 571 with an integrated Quartics video en/decoder. Now, a netbook with a dedicated low-power video chip and good battery life would be perfect. Heck, I'd buy 2!

After reading this, I came up with the following hypothesis:
Even though the graphics are moving into the cpu, I suspect it will be the same crap that we've seen before (i.e. no good video decoding, etc). And it's going to make it a little more difficult for other (NVidia) vendors to provide a decent graphics solution, especially in a totally embedded platform.

This is an exciting new platform, but given Intel's past with graphics capability, this one is going to be a stinker for people that want to use it as a htpc.
