Hey, 2008! Microsoft is calling. They just released My Phone, a sync solution that backs up your info and keeps your appointments and contacts synced with a web app. Why it took Microsoft this long to release a service like this is beyond me, but there you have it.

The system allows WinMo users to move from phone to phone and keeps a backup in case of breakage or loss. The service is currently free and you can sign up here.

  • It’s a really great solution, now I don’t have to worry about ever losing my contacts, and you’re able to edit both your contacts and calendar right on the website to upload to your device. I only wish they’d up the storage capacity, which is set at 200 MB, as I have a 4 GB external storage card to keep pics and video on. I’d probably pay for a Pro version if they did.

  • In other words, just a proprietary WinMo app that won’t sync Fennec bookmarks. This is not nearly as innovative as the cross-platform Mozilla Weave plugin for Fennec that syncs bookmarks/history/open tabs/passwords/ect. on every OS (including non-phone OSes) that Fennec supports.

  • The key here is it being CURRENTLY free.
