Although Acer officially announced its 11.6-inch netbook, the Aspire One A0751h, on Monday as “available now,” nobody’s been able to find one in a US store, online or otherwise. A few of our readers have indicated that the machines are (or were) on display in their local Wal-Mart stores although nobody has been able to actually buy one.
Some curious bits of information according to the comments in this post:
http://www.crunchgear.com/2009/05/18/acers-116-inch-aspire-one-ao751h-now-available-in-the-us
First, from Brian:
i also tried to buy one at Walmart and was told that the UPC is the same as another recalled Acer laptop. I had several asst managers invovled and they couldn’t figure out how to sell it to me. if anyone figures out how to buy one, please post the info. BTW, the one I had in my hands came with 2GB of RAM, 250 GB harddrive and loaded with Vista for $398!
Then, from Steven:
Just got off the phone with my walmart and was told they got an email to send thier 3 units back as they are being recalled. Are they confusing this model with another because it has wrong upc?
And finally, from Matt:
Yeah, I went to Walmart last night. They had a note up on the 11.6″ models stating that they were unable to sell them due to “a recall from home office”…whatever that means?
I just called a few of the Wal-Mart stores here in the Boston area and none of them even had the machines in stock or knew what I was talking about. From the looks of the above comments, it appears that the 11.6-inch Aspire One has either been recalled accidentally by way of a SKU number mix-up or the machine’s been recalled for real.
Also notable is that the 11.6-inch Aspire One is nowhere to be found on Acer’s website. I’m waiting for a comment from Acer, I’ll let you know what I hear.
UPDATE: Here’s the word, directly from Acer:
It’s not a recall, per se – there’s an incorrect marketing sticker on some of the boxes. Acer is remedying this – the products will be back on shelves next week.
So there you have it. Looks like it’ll just be a little while longer now.

Thanks for getting down and dirty for us Doug…I appreciate it!!!!
I guess I’ll have to wait until next week, then :)
Hello, I just purchased mine from hsn.com yesterday. 2MB RAM 250GB Hard Drive 11.6 pre-loaded with alot of software not including vista for $499. They sold out of all colors but I would check back in about 1-2 weeks because customer will start writing their reviews once they received their order.
Hi. I also got a blue one from HSN. It’s been freaking out on me since day one. How’s your Acer? Mine is having problems with the internet (several probs… like opening up to 20+ pages on it’s own without me doing anything, some weird thing that pops up in a different language or some funky symbols, can’t connect wirelessly, only with cable, opens up pages only when it wants to because sometimes it won’t load the page… so many other things) & it has turned off on it’s own, or the screen goes black. I don’t want to have to return it because I love it (the looks of it) but I’m going to have to. I also wanted to keep it because of the $500 worth of software, but it’s not worth keeping if it’s a defective computer. I even called Belkin & AT&T thinking it was my service but it’s not. They couldn’t help me out after being with them on the phone back & forth for the whole freaken day & night. HSN told me they would exchange it, but I just found out that they told them that they can’t do that because they sold out. That sucks. Is this a crappy computer period or did I just get a f-ed up one? Grrr so pist.
I received my from HSN not quite a week ago. Im getting used to it and I think I’m gonna keep it. Mine came with a 3 cell battery which in no way will give you 4 hours, I use mine on power saver mode and the most I’ve gotten at best is 2 maybe 2 1/2 hrs using the internet. I was having an issue with not being able tab and move the cursor I hadn’t realized my thumb was resting on the touchpad. My screen went black once, and that was when the battery was down to 10 mins. Needless to say I use it plugged in most of the time. I too had a problem accessing the wireless internet, the key to this was the little button along the front left edge, this toggles the wireless off and on. It’s not really clear in the instructions. I haven’t had a problem accessing my wireless since. Opening multiple pages was usually a result of me inadvertently hitting the touchpad (set for tap to enter), or being impatient because you don’t always see the little hourglass, in this case the circle. I have to be a little patient, because this isn’t the fastest horse out the gate. I have played some games on it, but some others run reallllllly slow. So it’s definately not for gaming. With that said, I like the size of the keys, the monitor is nice, this size is perfect, when I meet with clients it actually fits inside my binder and can’t be seen. The touchpad allows you to enlarge the screen, shrink the screen, scroll and the one function that i figured out when my internet pages kept changing was the ability to use the touchpad (2 fingers left and right across the touchpad) to move forward and backward between pages. The web cam, built in speakers and mic work nice. This does get warm but not overly hot. I tend to put it in hibernate so I don’t have to wait as long for it to boot if I turn it off. Also, you can just close the top if you need too, then just open it back up and resume where you left off. The more I use it, the more I like it. If you are looking for super speed this is not the one, but overall it’s a nice little netbook.
If you’re having problems getting on wireless, check the wireless switch. It’s right on the very front of the computer on the left, it toggles from left to right. If you don’t have it on the “on” position, you can’t get on wireless. I’ve had no problems whatsoever with mine. I have not had problems downloading pages or watching streaming video, which I’ve done on both youtube and hulu.
I HAD ALOT OF TROUBLE FINDING ONE BUT FINALLY FOUND ONE IN STOCK AT A LOCAL WALMART I REALY LIKE IT BETTER THAN ITS LITTLE PREDECESSOR , YOU MAY JUST HAVE A BAD ONE , GOOD LUCK PS , GOT IT FOR 398
mine did that also but I downloaded Chrome from google and connected with that browser. I then went in and changed the advanced option in internet explorer to the default set and all worked fine after that.
This may just be your acer. I baught mine last night from walmart and it runs great! I have been using it for school as I take online classes. I have been useing file share to get files off my laptop, as well as Office Home and Student. It works and runs at a speed compairible to my laptop. As I am writing this I have 4 web brosers open and as I said, the speed is great! I would say this acer one is well worth the money.
Hi,
I ordered the Acer from J&R.COM they have many models “in stock” now! I got model 1193, it’s got the 2g/250g/6cell/vista.
I should get it tomorrow, I’ll let everyone know how it works after a few days with it.
Hello, I read your post. I bought my Acer Aspire One (AO751h – 1279) just two days ago. Which would of been July 9th of 2009. I purchased mine at my Local Wal-Mart retailer for 398.00 in blue. I have had no problems with mine. The wireless internet works GREAT. The screen looks good, and this thing runs pretty smooth. Would probably run better if it didn’t have Windows Vista on it though. But it still works great. Only problem with it is this one can not run Full screen video without being extremely choppy. I can reduce the movie size and it’ll run fine. Other than that. I have had no problems out of mine.
Bought at Wal-Mart in Texas $378, blue, 2 GB, ZA3, Z520, A0751h-1279, 1.33 GHz, Vista Home Basic, 1.58 A, 19V, N214.
Don’t understand Z520 AND then N214
Hey guys, how does Acer compare to Asus?
Only product I know of that Asus makes, which is good, are motherboards. I do not know if they make the full Netbook, Notebook, or laptop models.
Bought it this morning for a crazy $249. at Radio Shack.
Wont see it in action till my 8 1/2 yearl old opens it on Christmas morning. hope its a good one.
Would getting rid of Vista and upgrading to windows 7 be practical?
Richard
I pretty sure the one you bought was a 1 gb. I bought it for $279 2 gb. 2009 black friday radio shack.
Why not just send out a memo of what is wrong with the packaging? I was ready to buy one, credit card out, yesterday. The store only had two. So, if they would have told me what was incorrect I could have made my decision and been out the door.
What was incorrect on the sticker? I hope it was not the fact that it has bluetooth. There was a sticker for bluetooth, but I have yet to see that mentioned in the PR’s or articles.
Acer wouldn’t say but if I had to guess, I’d speculate that there were enough errors (or a single serious error) to warrant a big decision like this.
Looking at this comment from Brian on the previous post:
“i also tried to buy one at Walmart and was told that the UPC is the same as another recalled Acer laptop. I had several asst managers invovled and they couldn’t figure out how to sell it to me. if anyone figures out how to buy one, please post the info. BTW, the one I had in my hands came with 2GB of RAM, 250 GB harddrive and loaded with Vista for $398!”
Some things look out of place to me: Vista, 2GB of RAM, and a 250GB hard drive seem pretty nice for a machine that’s supposed to have XP, 1GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard drive with a starting price of $349. For $50 more, you get a newer OS (regardless of everyone’s opinions of XP versus Vista on netbooks), double the RAM, and a much bigger hard drive.
Acer’s press release says:
“Well-equipped with a full 1GB of memory and 160GB of hard drive space, the new Acer Aspire Ones are ready for customers who want to take their digital media and files with them. Select new models will feature up to 2GB of DDR2 memory and up to a 250GB internal hard drive, providing even more capabilities and storage space for mobile enthusiasts.”
So the 2GB of RAM and 250GB hard drive are (or will be) available.
There’s also mention of Bluetooth:
“Connecting to the latest peripherals such as printers, a display and consumer electronics such as digital cameras is easy with the Acer Aspire Ones’ useful ports (three USB 2.0, Ethernet, VGA) as well as Bluetooth capabilities that can be activated with the Easy Launch Bluetooth key.”
However, nothing in the press release mentions Windows Vista. It all says “Windows XP, Service Pack 3″ everywhere.
If all the boxes said Vista on them, then that may have caused the recall since it’d get Microsoft drawn into everything.
I agree with you, though. Seems like it could have been corrected with a simple addendum stuck to the box if it was a simple mistake or two. That’s what leads me to believe that it’s a more serious error.
Yeah, I agree with what you said. But to people who may not know, the models with 1GB memory and 160Gig of ram has the XP OS. The 2GB and 250 Gig HD has the Vista Home Basic OS. The only thing I am not fond of is the processor speed. Which, on my model AO751h – 1279 (Vista Home Basic), runs a Intel Atom processor Z520. If you read the package the Net Book Comes in. It does not tell you the actual processor speed. Most people would probably not buy this computer if they knew what the processor speed was before hand. For those of you who want to know, here are the spec directly off of mine.
Manufacture – Acer
Model – AO751h-1279

PS WE DON T THINK IT HAS BLUETOOTH , CAN T FIND IT ON THE FACS OR ON THE PC , LOOKS AS IF NO BLUETOOTH ON THE ACER 11.6 REAL BUMMER , DON T KNOW WHY THEY WOULD MAKE A BIGGER ONE WITH ALL IT HAS THEN LEAVE OFF THE BLUETOOTH
Cleared that up! I’ll stop trying to find it at the local Wal Mart. What is with
a plus 11 inch screen product being called a netbook? At what point is it a Notebook?
A Note Book is a smaller version of a Lap Top which usually is slower, but is more portable than a Laptop. A Net Book is designed for internet use only. They do not have a CD or DvD installed on them. Which makes them even lighter and more portable. Which confuses me because on my NETBOOK it comes pre-loaded with a DvD viewing program….go figure. You can buy and external Hard Drive if you want to. but if it is not USB powered, then you are up a creek unless you have another power source other than your computer. But on the good note. If you know how to network your computers then you can transfer information from the Net Book to your desk top and burn disks that way.
I hope they get this figured out soon. I am taking a trip this summer and want to buy a netbook in the next two weeks. If Acer can’t figure this out, I will go with my original plan, an Asus 1000HE.
They had one on display at Walmart that I checked out, and I can confirm that it does have Vista. I couldn’t wait any longer since it was a gift so I went ahead and ordered an ASUS 1000HE… Maybe they will have it figured out soon…Father’s Day is just around the corner!
Oh wow, so the display unit was actually running Vista? Interesting. Very interesting indeed.
Thanks Brian.
Walmart should have two display models running. A Lower base model (usually around $278, depending on region) and a higher base model (usually around $398, Depending on region). The lower price one has XP, less ram, less storage. The higher price one has Vista Home Basic, More ram, More Storage.
I went to Walmart in Woodland Hills and they have one in stock. I ask the guy to try if I can buy it and it did registered and I could hae walk away with it. I was concern about the recall thing so I did not.
IT DOES HAVE VISTA , I AM LOOKING AT IT NOW
Hey guys,
Acer finally got the 11.6″ model up on their website. Here’s a link to their netbook products:
http://us.acer.com/acer/product.do?link=oln85e.redirect&changedAlts=&CRC=600100215
Looks like it might be offered in either Vista or XP.
Also looks like both the 10.1″ and 11.6″ clearly have bluetooth.
However, my only question is about the 3G connection? Neither seem to advertise that part. This is all so mind boggling, yet fun. :-)
No local Stores were found in that ZIP/Postal code. Try searching a wider radius or using a different ZIP/Postal code. I used a 120 mile radius.
Moved to Taipei Taiwan from Monterey, Ca about a month ago. Was surprised to find the 11.6 generally available here. Its a fine little machine. Wish I had not recently purchased a Lenovo S10.
Computer are 10 to 20 percent more expensive here. Don’t know why. I thought they would be cheaper.
But I’m posting to say that the price of the 11.6″ model here is between $600 and $630 everywhere.
I’m wondering if the recall has anything to do with a pricing error by Acer for the US market.
Another thing I noticed. The local Wal-Mart had a display model up but like you guys said they couldn’t sell it. I asked to see the box, and it was showing having the atom z540 1.6g processor while on Acer’s site it’s just showing it available with the atom z520 1.3g processor. That might be the holdup not sure, but boy it was nice hope they get things ironed out soon.
I too tried to buy one at Wal-Mart last night. It rang up as “do not sell”. Nobody can tell me why. I called Acer headquarters and was told there isn’t a recall. They said the problem must be internal to Wal-Mart.
I was at the Wal-Mart in my city last night and they had the 11.6″. It had Vista, which I’d rather not have, but it had a beautiful screen and would actually fit my hands. If I’d known it was such a hot commodity, I’d have bought it. I figured I’d go home and read reviews on it because frankly I hadn’t heard about it. Small yet not so micro like the 10.1″ sitting next to it. 2G Memory 250GB HD. Twice as much as the one sitting next to it at 10.1″. However, I figure with Vista the memory isn’t all that impressive. But, would be good to get it and wipe the Microsoft cr#9 off it and put a Linux OS that would be extremely fast! Going out of town but may go back there on way out of town to see if they still have some. They had 3 that I could see. I’m guessing there isn’t really a recall. Most likely they last minute thought, “Hmm. These are in demand. Let’s rethink the price $398 was the tag on them.
Hey everyone. I bought the 10.1″, but had to take it back simply because the program I needed to use, I could not scroll to the bottom of it. screen size was to small i guess. anyway, I went to Walmart last night about 2:30 in the Morn after I was done work (morn of the 23). They had around 8 of the 11.6″. I went to purchase one and was told the samething. Couldn’t sell it. Seems great for the price if it has everything it says.. Vista, 2g mem, 250 hd… The lady had to pull them off the self, said there is no Override to sell them.
Hope they figure it out soon.
If this is the case I will NEVER buy an Acer product and will go with the ASUS 1000HE. If they can not figure out the pricing, and just want to entice us that is lame. Plus, could they not just post the new price? If they get everyone to think this is a great buy for the price, then raise it to 449 or 499, that is bait and switch, unacceptable!

But I’m posting to say that the price of the 11.6″ model here is between $600 and $630 everywhere.
I’m wondering if the recall has anything to do with a pricing error by Acer for the US market.
I bought the 11.6 Acer from Walmart on 5/13/09 in Ga. It came with a 3 cell battery but the sticker said that it should have an 8+ hour battery life. I called Acer they told me that the 8+ hour life was on stand by. I was very dissapointed with the customer service as well as i thought the 11.6 came with the 6 cell battery. I am very happy with the computer other than the life of the battery.
Tammie
How much did you pay for it, Vista? Do you like the larger screen as compared to a 10.1?
i saw a 11.6″ netbook at walmart also. looked great. just the right size. not too small but just enough size to watch movies comfortably, just like a dvd player. just wish had better processor speed. everything else is just great. hope they keep xp and not vista
I called Acer today, and they advised me that there is not a price for this yet. The lady stated that it would not be available until sometime in mid-June. Bummer.
I have it on good authority it will be available before then.
I want one before I leave for a trip on June 1. Unfortunately I can’t get my hands on it, even though Wal-Mart had stock. It appears the price may elevate from $398 too.
Rechecked today at my walmart and nothing yet. Tuesday 9/26
Think SUNNY days ahead for Acer and the AO751h
Went to a Wal-Mart yesterday. They had the 751 on display looks amazing. However there were none in stock. I guess they were all sold or just shipped back to acer. I am checking everyday to see when they are back. I will update to let everyone know. I just can’t believe how hush hush this whole situation has become. Maybe this is all some sort of marketing strategy???
They were NOT shipped back trust me
Hello,
I purchased one of the blue 11.6 last night at a NJ walmart – The Model # is AO75h-1279 –
Is there really recall ?
I want to be sure I am not going to burn the house down with this thing plugged in…
And I did pay the $398.00 + tax… Does anyone thing the price will actually be lower when the “recall” is over…
Hi Dan,
Could you please list all the specs off of the box for everyone? Also does it actually have the 6 cell battery in that model. I saw that same model at the Super Walmart here in Minnesota, also $398. I went back to buy it the next day and it was gone. Same story. It did say Windows Vista, 2 GIGS RAM, 250 GIG HD. I can’t remember the chip/speed? The LED screen is AWESUME! It is Very thin and only 2.75 pounds, the screen size 11.6″, and quality are what really got me.
Thanks for the help! I will be buying one as soon as it re-appears. That is assuming it does have the 6 cell battery.
Well, one more strike out at my local Walmart. I think it is time to buy the ASUS 1000HE from Buy. Does anyone have that netbook? I find it hard to believe the retail gorilla called Walmart does not want to sell us these.
Hi Marc,

First – The Walmart Model Does not apparently have blue tooth – It has a bluetooth tab on the control panel menu, but it does not show a bluetooth device in the hardware menu…
I would also assume the battery is a 3-cell since it shows 3:45 when fully charged… it is a simplo bttery pack model um09a71 – 11.1vdc 2.15AH / 2200MAH/23WH
I thought the Bigger HD screen, better resolution, larger hard drive, and 2 gig memory made it worth the $100 premium over the 10.1…
Am I wrong ?
Should I return it ?
Does anyone think it will actually be less then $398 when it is offically released at Wal-Mart ? Was it worth $398…
I hope this info helps, and sorry for the questions,,,
Hmmm….only a 3 cell? That is a deal breaker for me!
I ordered one from HSN and the stats don’t what size battery it is, but does say you get up to a 4 hour battery life.
I just odered one through HSN.com
See: http://electronics.hsn.com/acer-aspire-one-11-6-choice-of-color-lcd-250gb-hdd-2gb-ram-laptop-w-webcam_m-10044108_xp.aspx
It has a 250GB hard drive and 2GB DDR2 SDRAM of memory. It sold for $499, broken down into 5 monthly payments of $99 plus tax and about $11 dollars shipping -no interest, they simply bill your credit/debit card once a month, but send it right away. It comes in red, blue, white, and black. They also send a memory stick containing a ton of free software that you can either load or not. Also, there is one year of 7-days-a-week tech support included for free.
Hi Dan,
Thanks for posting all of the specs on the box!
To your question, I think it will NOT go down in price for your model. 2gigs/250HD,VISTA, LED screen. The thing that really got me was the 11.6 INCH beautiful LED screen. For me 10.1 is too small, and the LED seemed to be so much nicer (more contrast, just better) than the 15.4″ LCD next to it.
The battery thing is the only catch for me, on the display model it said 8 hours. Does it state anywhere on or in 3 or 6 cell battery? But still, for it’s 11.6 LED screen, and only 2.75 pounds, less than 1″ thin, still state of the art! imo. We maybe could also buy the 6 cell and pop it in?
How does it perform ON/OFF the internet? How do you like the 11.6 LED screen?
Thanks again!
Marc
Dan,
Yes, I think it was well worth the extra $100! The 11.6 LED is totally worth it all by itself to me. 10.1 is just too small, imo, and I looked at the 10.1 yesterday, it’s not anywhere as nice looking either!
You get all this for the extra $100. Most important the 11.6 LED, Full keyboard, 2gigs, 250 HD.
How does that Z520 Chip perform?
I would keep it if you like it!
Marc
I found this model, I’m not sure if it would be better, iGIG, 160HD, 6 cell battery! and XP! You could then add 1GIG memory. It may make sense to wait for this to hit the web for sale? What does everyone think? I would like a look at all models.

HSN.COM is selling today the Acer 250 GB HDD, 2 GB Ram, 11.6″ netbook for $499.90 (on five flex pays – with 30 days money back guaranty) but after reading all the reviews about the 3 cell battery, in a quandry as well …… but will watch the show later, or go on line for the stats …..
Hi Laura,
Thanks! That confirms it’s a 3 cell, they have all the specs for it at HSN.COM. It is the same one at Walmart only $100 more. What do you think about waiting for the other model, AO751h-1192 (above) with the 6 hour battery and then getting another 1 gig later if it’s even needed? Thanks again.
Acer has finally updated their website to show all configurations of the new netbook, and where to buy them. Hopefully, this time we will be able to actually buy them.

Hi Frances,
Thanks! Ok, only two models have the 6 cell battery. Model AO751h-1192, and -1196.
1192 has 1gig and 160 gig hd, XP Home, 6 cell.
1196 has 2gigs and 250 gig hd, XP Pro, 6-cell.
I’m going to wait and see what price each of these two go for. If it’s not too pricey I’ll get the 1196.
Dan, you have 15 days to return the Walmart model.
Seems like HSN is trying to make a nice $100 profit on this netbook. Even though Walmart had it at $398 last week. I am going to wait till all the dust settles and then buy it at face value price. (Which will be under $400 for sure)
saw the same thing at Walmart, handwritten display, and even less $ than I have seen on this site. Sent my Bud over to buy one—he was looking, and it had already been taken down and a printed description was $75 more, lower ram, etc. Went to front of store—no, they had never had a handwritten up there. and it was recalled.
Looked like a nice machine, reminded me of the older Sony little widescreen laptops back in the days before most of you could type. Took that one to Bali, Fiji and beyond.
Anyway, yes I too have been looking everywhere—isn’t the Acer site user friendly? I found one Acer link with at least 9 different configs.
I’m waiting because the descriptions are just what I want and need.
Hi Dan,
Yep, went to the Acer site today after Frances post. and I’ll buy either the 1192 or the 1196 the only 6 cell models.
This appeared on the Acer site tonight! Pre-order. 6 cell $389
http://www.jr.com/acer-computer/pe/ACE_AO751H1192/
Who knows anything about XP Pro? I want to find out about it because I’m leaning towards the 1196 model which has XP Pro. How does it compare to XP Home? I’ll wait to see how things shake out with these two 6 cell models
Thanks!
The 6 cell with 160Gb is for $389 on JR.com?? I got the 3 cell 250Gb model # ACE AO151H1346 for $399 with Vista instead of XP Pro. I want a 6 cell. Is it possible to get a 6 cell battery and just use it?? Sorry if that is a dumb question, but remember I’ve been a Mac user for sooo long :(
Hi Sonya!
I’m guessing you could buy a 6 cell and plug it in, when they become available. The model at J&R is model 1192 and only has 1gig and 160HD. So if you can get the 6 cell later it’ll be great with your 2gigs and 250 HD.
It looks like I will wait for model 1196 unless it’s too much money, then I’ll get model 1192 and then add 1gig later. I’m guessing within the next two weeks we should see some models start to appear in stores and online!
I hope…..
Just got my 11.6″ at WalMart for $398… They didn’t have them earlier this afternoon, but a quick trip on my way home at 9:30pm found 3 boxes in stock… I’m anxious to try mine out… Just thought I’d let you all know so you can check your WalMarts…. Laters

Was it 3 cell or 6 cell?
Unfortunatley, it was the 3 cell…
does anyone know if the 6-cell models have the battery ‘jutting out’ from the battery compartment? or does the form factor resemble that of the more modestly sized 3-cell? Believe it or not, id rather have the 3-cell if the 6-cell turns out to be the eyesore that ive seen on other brands.
Hi John,
If you check out this U-Tube Video, You will see that the 6-cell Battery Sticks far out the rear like the rest of the Acer 6-cell batteries…
Hence the reason I would never get a ^-Cell Acer – It ruins the look…
Dan
Hi Dan,
Thanks for the U-Tube link! That netbook is state of the art! I actually think the 6 cell doesn’t stick out that bad at all. Also it appears to be less than the netbook’s one inch in thickness, so for me it’s not a problem at all. Also it only takes the weight from 2.75 to 3.0 pounds.
Go to netbooknews.it, it give a video test, the LED screen looks great! Better than the WXGA LCD’s that are out there, imo. I’m waiting for the 1192 or the 1196 models!
Anyone know how XP PRO compares to XP Home?
Thanks
Hi Marc! It’s so cool that your in the same area as me. The weather has been great here :)
I pre-ordered the Acer 11.6 with 250GB and 2Gb of memory off JR.com. It was $399 – no tax for us outside of NY & free shipping!! I called them this morning to confirm when they were getting those shipped in, and they said they have a big order coming in next week. I spoke to Alex at ext. 1023. He was really nice, and didn’t try to up-sale me or anything. So basically I got the EXACT same model sold on HSN without all that useless software fluff for $100 less :)
I really hate HSN. Everytime I order from them, I am never satisfied. Best Buy only has the 8.9in netbooks, and Apple doesn’t seem like they’ll have a netbook soon.
Can you answer this – is Windows Vista necessary? I heard it’ll just use up the majority of the 2Gb memory, and that Windows XP is just fine. What do you think about that?? I haven’t owned a Windows OS computer in almost 10 years so I’m really out of the loop.
Sorry if that has been already answered in the post. I’m on my iPhone, and not in the mood to scroll through the pages….
Hi Sonya,
Yes, it’s cool that we both live here! I’m loving the warm weather! I hate winter so I try to enjoy the warm months (the few we have). :)
About Vista, I have heard it’s not good? But I have never had it. That is one reason I am waiting for modles 1192 and 1196. Both have XP, (one XP Home, one XP Pro) and both have the 6 cell battery. Vista takes up about 1gig so you will have a full 1gig which is alot! I would like to get model 1196 as it has XP Pro, 2gigs, 250 HD and the 6 cell. So I will wait to see when they become available. Model 1192 has XP Home, 1gig, 160 hd and 6 cell is $389 pre-order at J&R. I’m guessing that model 1196 will be around $450.
The LED screen is what got me, it is beautiful!!! I saw it at walmart and went back to buy it and it was gone. This netbook is really a small laptop, thin and lite, this thing is the future, imo!
I’m sure your new baby is keeping you really busy. :) Is this your first? Boy or girl? I hope you are getting some sleep.
Take care, I’m heading out to enjoy the warm weather! I heard almost 80 today!!!!!
Marc,
OMG the weather was just beautiful yesterday. My daughter, Adelina, is my first child. I am actually getting a good amount of sleep. I just nap when she does, and those power naps help me make it through the day. I’m a single mom too, but really it’s not that bad if you have the patience (and a non-colic baby). I have pictures of her on my beauty blog: http://sonya04.blogspot.com. I can’t wait to get the Acer so I can start updating my blog.
You know I went to Walmart yesterday hoping they would have a display model to play with, but they didn’t even have that :( I wish I went to Walmart this past weekend when they had them in stock, but that’s okay because I ordered it on JR.com.
I can’t believe how much memory Vista uses! That is ridiculous. I am going to just use either Linux or XP Home, most likely XP Home. I really like how Vista’s interface look, but not at the expense of that much memory.
I wish I knew about the 1196 model before getting the 3 cell model. Just thinking of 6+ battery hour makes me drool, but until a 6 cell battery comes out I’ll have to just deal with what I ordered since I really do need a computer bad. Surfing the web on my iPhone is making my index finger hurt.
Have you ever own an Acer netbook? I’m going to Micro Center to check out accessories for my baby.

OK I just my lengthy comment didn’t get submitted properly, so let me try this again.
Marc,
My daughter, Adelina, is my first child. I am so blessed to have her in my life, and I love being a mommy. It’s a lot of work, but I actually get to sneak in a lot of power naps that help me make it through the day. I have pictures of her on my make-up blog: http://sonya04.blogspot.com. I cannot wait to get the Acer so I can start blogging again!! I’m actually getting sponsorship and will be getting paid to blog from an all-natural make-up company located in Texas, so I really really really really want my Acer to get here already.
I wish I knew about the 1196 model, but I was very desperate and needed a computer so I ordered the 3 cell model with Vista. Just thinking of a 6 cell of 6+ hours of battery life makes me drool! I can’t believe that Vista uses up all that memory. That’s insane, but at the same time the Vista’s interface is attractive, but I’ll rather have XP Home that has more programs and software available to use on it’s OS.
I went to Walmart yesterday hoping they would have the model display available to play with, but they didn’t. The screen looked beautiful when I saw it on-air on HSN, but I’m sure it’s just more beautiful in person.
Have you ever own any Acer computers? I heard they are the most popular when it comes to netbooks. They do make some very cute netbooks.
Well I’m off to Micro Center to cause some damage ;)
Hi Sonya,
I went to your blog, Thanks! You do have a beautiful daughter, you are blessed! That sounds like a great opportunity with blogging for the all-natural make-up company from Texas! Very cool. You must have some great skills with computers and people!
I bet your finger must be getting sore if your are having to use your iPhone! You really DO need that netbook soon! I’m in a similar situation, my laptop died, so I am having to use a really old computer that is “plugged” into the wall, so I can’t move around and be online.
I have never had an Acer before, I had a Compaq laptop that was about 5 years old and just died. I will also be glad to get one of the Acer netbooks so I can move around again!!!
Have fun at Micro Center!
Sorry – Forgot the link…

Thanks for the link, Dan. I’ll certainly be going with the 3-cell then. After all, I will likely just be using it while lying in bed, so having it plugged in during such use wouldn’t be a major issue. I don’t really plan on doing much traveling with it, and if i do i will just remember my 3 hr max.
Does anyone have any information on the *new* 10.1″ ? The one that basically looks identical to the 11.6″ just smaller? I think that’s the one I’ll probably be getting but can’t seem to find any reliable info on it.
Is it just me or did all resellers remove the A0751h from their websites? I could’ve sworn I saw it on Amazon yesterday and today it was gone. I went to Walmart and they had it on display, but said they couldn’t sell them at this time. Is HSN the only place to actually order these things now? If so, I’ll wait because I’d prefer not to pay the extra $100 that they are charging. Anyone know somewhere else to buy it?
Amazon had it on their website. In fact, for a few hours at least, that had it on their website for pre-order. Then it was removed altogether from the website.
I managed to submit a pre-order. It was the Acer Aspire One AO751h-1346. This is a Vista 2 gig ram 250 HD 3 cell battery for $399.99.
I am thinking about canceling after seeing the youtube reviews of Vista on this machine. XP sounds like the way to go.
HSN has it today 6/1 as a today’s special for $499 with software and vista
I gave up and went with the ASUS 1000HE netbook, with an upgrade to 2 GB RAM from Crucial. Walmart and ASUS can continue playing their games.
Oops, that should read Walmart and ACER can play their games with this model. I bought my computer from Buy.
Home Shopping Network is selling it
Hi:
Should I wait to get one? I was looking at HSN and I was tempted to buy it… I am going to look in the local Wal Mart to see if they have it here. I have a MSI 10.1″ and I am very pleased with the quality and customer service but an extra inch will be nice. Could some one tell me about the Acer’s quality and customer support?
HSN is saying that it is only available thru them. Not sold anywhere else!!! They have blue, red and black. Was available in white earlier today.
I gave up also. I searched and searched – Wal-Mart was the only store that had it but they couldn’t sell it. Acer customer service was completely useless to the point that they wouldn’t even answer my direct questions about when it would be available or where. The most information they would give me is to refer me back to their website….
I’m going to wait for the new Asus 11.6 I guess.
Maybe the Vista version is available only on HSN. I know they also include a ton of software = not many titles I would use so I don’t think the Vista is worth it. I have a laptop now with Vista – it is ok but not worth the extra $100. The 3 cell battery they say is 4 hours and a 6 cell for 8 hours of time is available extra.
seems like the ones with six cell and 2g/250 only come with VISTA? ANybody see a 6cell/2g/250HD with XP anywhere???
Note that today everybody including Amazon is selling = the holdup was obviously part of a deal with HSN until their TOday’s Special was complete.
Hi Jeanne,
YES, Read my earlier posts, the model you want is model AO751h-1196. It has 2g/250HD, 6 cell, and XP Pro.
It’s on the Acer site. None seem to be available yet, but I’m waiting for the 1196, or the 1192 models. They are the only two with the 6 cell.
Do you know anything about XP Pro?
Marc
Main difference between XP home and XP “Pro” is the ability to join a Windows domain. (Mainly for business networks) Do not know of any downside to using Pro for normal home use…
Basically just an excuse for Microsoft to charge businesses $100 more for Pro than home users for “home” even though Windows 95 supported joining domains period…
Thanks! Model 1196 has everything I want but has XP Pro, so I wanted to make sure it wasn’t a bad OS. Do you happen to know if it takes up alot more memory than XP Home? It shouldn’t matter though model 1196 has 2gigs.
Now I have to wait for it to become available.
Being laid off and starting a home business, I wanted a laptop to use when I meet with my clients. I happened to see this on HSN and decided to purchased it because I thought the price was nice 499.(plus you can pay in 5 installments) had 2GB RAM, and a 250GB HD, it has a 6 in 1 card reader, built in webcam, with built in speaker and mic. You install only the software titles you want from a 4GB sd card. It had a lot of features I was looking for and is small and lightweight, unfortunately I won’t get it before 6-18-09 or at least they said. I did a search for the 11.6 screen model and couldn’t find it anywhere.
The netbooks have disappeared from Amazon…they were available for pre-order earlier this morining.
I saw them this morning also on Amazonand if they were not preorder I would have plunked down the money for one even though the white was gone but for under $400 and free shipping I thought it was a good deal. Don’t rememeber if it was with Vista or not. I do remember the Acer rep on HSN said the ONLY place you could get the 11.6 was at HSN. We will have to see.
I’m typing this on my iPhone at 5am CST (I’m on maternity leave, so my newborn daughter keeps me up. I have always used Mac computers. However, my iMac crashed and died about 2 months ago, and ironically the day I got the email for the Acer 11.6 netbook as the Today’s Special Value (TSV) on HSN for $499 with 5 flex-pay of $99 my Macbook decided to crash and die as well. I have been interested in purchasing a netbook for some time, but was reluctant to actually get one since Apple doesn’t have one and that’s all I have used for the past 6 years. Since my computers are well past the Apple warranty I decided I would purchase the MSI Wind 10.1 U100, but held off on that. 10.1inches isn’t that small if you can do a lot of web surfing on the iPhone just fine.
Anyways I ordered the Acer TSV on HSN, and was told that it would not arrive until June 18th. That was fine with me. Well J&R is selling it on pre-sale for $399 without all that extra software that HSN includes. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE FROM HSN EVER AGAIN. First, they are overpriced. The flexpay is practically their way of charging an extremely ridiculously high interest rate if you take in consideration that you can buy the exact same computer for $100 less from a REPUTABLE online website. Secondly, the extra software that they say is worth sooo much is a rip off! For example some of the software is available for FREE for the FULL software from the actual software maker’s website (ex. Mozilla Sunbird, Serif Paint Shop…) I guess they include Casino Solitaire and other games, but is it worth an extra $100. Not to me!! Thirdly, their customer service and sales pitch is shitty. I ordered it 2 days ago, and was told I wouldn’t get it until 06/18. I just called to cancel the order, but they say they couldn’t because it says it got shipped on 06/01. WTF? That doesn’t make sense that it’ll take 17 days to ship.
So I got off the phone, and called Super Walmart since they are open 24/7, and they DO sell it. The electronics guy told me they sold out with that exact model number this past weekend, and that all the Walmarts in the Twin Cities area us sold out.
So I ordered it from J&R using my iPhone web browser. I can’t wait to ship the HSN order back to them!!!
**sorry if there are typos. I am sore typing this with my index finger.
Hi Sonya,
I’m in the Twin cities also! Good for you, send that one back to HSN. They were trying to make a quick hundred, I’m glad you are sending it back! What model did you order from J&R? On the Acer site J&R had the pre-order for model 1192 (the 6 cell,1 gig, 160 HD, XP Home) for $389.
Marc
Jr.com has them for pre-order at 399.00. I pre ordered one yesterday. Same specification as HSN.
xp pro vs home:

Do you have a network with computers sharing at home? If so, you’d perhaps want pro… I’m fine with Home edition… I saw your note before Marc but was looking for someplace actually selling them – but – I can wait a bit. THX for replying – hope the above link gives you the info you need to decided on a version of XP.
Hi Jeanne,
Thanks for the link. The reason I wanted to know about XP Pro is model 1196 with the 2gigs/250HD,6 CELL, has XP Pro. I know I like XP Home and I don’t know how Pro would be? So I may just buy model 1192 with 1gig/160HD,6CELL, it has XP Home, and then later get 1gig of memory.
What do you think?
