It’s not out yet but there’s a new app that lets you take photos from your EOS Canon camera using your iPhone. You still have to connect the camera to your laptop via USB but the system transmits Live View video to the iPhone and then lets you take the snap at the decisive moment.
Okay, if you’re wondering how it works, here’s a quick run down.
1. You need either an iPhone or an iPod Touch
2. You need a supported Canon EOS DSLR
3. A laptop or desktop computer running the free companion DSLR Remote Server software
4. A USB cable to connect your supported Canon EOS DSLR camera to the computer running the free server softwareThe DSLR Remote app running on your iPhone (or iPod Touch) communicates to the DSLR Remote Server software via a WIFI connection.
From your iPhone you can control settings such as shutter speed, aperture and white balance. You can of course fire the camera shutter as well. If you have a Canon EOS DSLR camera that supports Live View you can even get a live stream of the camera’s viewfinder on your iPhone.
It works with the following cameras: Digital Rebel XT, Rebel XTi, Rebel XS, Rebel XSi, 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D, 5D, 5D Mark II, 1D Mark II, Mark IIn, Mark III, 1Ds Mark II, Mark III.

That is ultracool! Headed to festival with 5D mark ii and Rebel T1i, why can’t this be out today. Kudos to whoever developed this.
WAIT? Does this mean I can use this as a “Nanny Cam”?
Guys,
Where can I find the “free companion DSLR Remote Server software” ?
looked at canon’s site (I have a Canon Xti) and googled it, but can’t find it.
Really hope a similar program will come out for Nikons.
i don’t!
hehehe
Stuff Nikon!!
:D
PHIL – That would be one LOUD nanny cam!! lol, I think your nanny would figure things out pretty quickly with the shutter click every time you want to take photo evidence! :P
this app does not support Canon Rbel T1i. Its an EOS…
It would be great to get updates that could support T1i. I Purchased the Application but I can’t use it.
T1i support was only recently added to the Canon SDK, so the DSLR Remote app needs to be updated. The next version of the app should work.
Any idea how much this app is going to cost? Sounds like a really neat program.
